BMW Launches i Remote App for Apple Watch

BMW has been working on apps for smart devices for quite some time now, a while back launching one for Samsung's Galaxy Gear watch. Now, as Apple unveiled their own smart watch, an app for iOS is also available.

After selling out their online stocks in a matter of hours, it's pretty clear to see that the Apple Watch will be yet another successful product from Cupertino.

Keeping up with the trends, BMW launched the BMW i Remote app for its i cars today, marking yet another chapter in its history. The new app is already available for free on the iTunes store for owners of the new-age cars.

Using it allows the driver to perform various tasks and check parameters of the car while on the run. Also, it connects to the car's onboard computer and allows you to do things remotely.

The start screen presents the car linked up to the smartwatch in the already traditional style of BMW i. Also displayed here are the car’s charge status and available range, as well as the time of day. Scrolling further up the start screen reveals a new menu through which users can check a host of other vehicle information.

Therefore you can check if the doors are locked, the sunroof is still open or the boot is closed. Service alerts are also flashed up – e.g. if a brake fluid change or service is due.

Status indicators aren't the only advantage the app brings. You can actually control some of the car's functions using it.

For example, you can pre-condition your car while charging it. Let's say you parked it in the sun and you don't want to sweat through your pants when leaving your office. You can cool the car down using its AC system before you get to it, from your wrist.

To top everything off, you can send navigation coordinates from the car's system to the watch, to help you continue your trip on foot after parking. That's useful in our book!

Volkswagen app for the Apple Watch

Volkswagen of America has introduced their new app for the Apple Watch.

Dubbed Car-Net, the app will enable owners of Car-Net equipped vehicles to remotely lock / unlock doors, check their fuel level and see the status of the doors, windows and sunroof. Owners can also pull up a map showing the location of their vehicle and can get walking or driving directions to it. They can even honk the horn and flash the lights to help locate their car in a crowded parking lot.

Parents can also use the app to receive speed and boundary alerts to keep tabs on teen drivers.

Last but not least, e-Golf owners can use the app to check the charge status and current estimated driving range as well as access the climate control system.

Out of curiosity, did anyone here buy himself an iWatch?

I love Apple products, but even so, I never had any intention of buying an Apple Watch. I just don't see the point in it. There's not much it can do that an iPhone can't do better, such as navigation or replying to messages. And I always have my iPhone with me. And then you have the issue of battery life with people reporting it will barely last one day. But, nevertheless, I thought I'd just have a look at the website and price up the model that I would buy if I did purchase one. When I first heard they would be around £400-£500, that was more than I expected. But the model I would choose was a few Pounds short of £1,000!!! WTF?!! Who in their right mind would spend that on an Apple Watch?!!!

I'd rather put that kind of money towards a proper high quality watch like a Panerai.

Don't be silly G..... no one here is that stupid.

:eye5::eusa_snoo:eusa_hand:winkgrin:

I'm so glad that no one here is taking this seriously...there is hope for humanity!

The thing is flopping so hard people don't even know it's called Apple Watch.

Couldn't agree more, Betty. I read somewhere Panerai is the most popular watch among SAS guys. I wouldn't be surprised if you are ex-SAS ;-)

Not a rhetorical question, out of my own genuine curiosity - how many of you bought the original IPhone - the one released in June 2007 (not sure if it was even available in Europe, if it wasn't, what did you think about it at that time - be honest!).

I think the situation is slightly different this time compare to the pre-portable device days. Apple has Android as a formidable competitor and there are a range of 2nd generation wearable devices on the market before the launch of the iwatch. I still don't think there is a practical use for a smart watch yet.
