Im quite a fan of Mercedes interiors but this GLK interior has been very disappointing (except for the door panel) :eusa_doh:
Am I the only one that thinks so?

I am.

I'm also not impressed by C's interior and judging from the spy pics, the new E class won't have that WoW interior either.

PS: Please be so kind and post a little bit smaller pic if you don't mind. Thanks in advance.

:t-cheers:

Definitely. Personally, I have been really let down by recent MB interiors.

Lol, yah. Dont worry, some beemer interiors are just as bad. Bland and boring.

Agreed. I see a lot of Mercedes styling themes in the interior. The GLK interior for some reason reminds me of the W124 interior and a bit of the W202 and W210 as well. Quality wise it looks ok. Definitely well made despite the abundance of plastic.

I just think the fact it resembles an interior designed in the 1980s may not be such a good thing for a 2008 car...

In pics it look ok, if you remove the strange shiney leather and the strange shiney "gulp" thing actually replacing the wood/alu...

Waiting to sit in it, though, before my definitive judgment.

Strange, they put so little wood/alu in the C and so much in the GLK... Couldn't they have been a bit more fair?:D
However, i don't find W124 accents in it. Sure the upper side of the dash is inspired, but the whole is very different. The W124 has a very simple, relaxing layout, the GLK not really. So for me, no real W124 accents.

@ Germaniac: honestly, if the new E had the very same interior as a W124, I would be happy as hell...I love that interior. You sit and you're at home!!!

It is what I like about the new C: it looks spartan, but I feel at home in it. Everything's simple and feels solid.

It isn't the best MB interior, but it isn't rubbish either I don't think. I need to see it with a beige setup with some wood. In short I'll wait until more pics are issues of various colors interior schemes.

You could be right. :usa7uh:

At the same time it somehow suits the car, since it looks like a mini GL with a portion of 1980s MB styling themes, mainly W201 and W124. :usa7uh:

I can see this interior for the GLK, it is supposed to be basic and "truck like". What worries me is that all the spy pics seem to indicate that the next E and CLK have the same setup. The current E interior is a wonderful and very original interior for a Benz IMO and I'd had to see them go backwards.

I actually think the angular design of the interior works much better with the GLK than with the C-Class. :usa7uh:

I really hated the C class interior cause i thought it was an interior for 90's not for our times, strangely though i like this one.

I don't think that the interior as a whole is a disappointment, I do think that it could have been executed a whole lot better though. It's pretty obvious that MB is trying to mimic to their mid-80s/mid-90s designs, and looking at the GLK interior i think they'e doing a nice job at it, but the designers seem to be failing to integrate more modern/luxury elements into the design. It's like the designers think that all the straight lines and sharp angles compensate for the elements that make a good interior.

If you examine the interior more closely you will see that the area where good design is best reconciled with the retro look (IMO) is the armrest/cupholders area which manages to be both anguar yet have nice design elements such as crome rings surrounding the top of the cupholders, and the COMAND wheel's placement is quite innovative, although I have no idea how practical it is.

The steering wheel isn't half bad, and I really like the area around the CD/DVD opening and the A/C dials below it. The transmission level and the glove compartment area would have benefited from some extra design effort, while the area around the vents are quite positively the disaster in this design: they look boring, cheap, and overall unbecoming of an MB.

I think that overall MB is quite close to nailing this direction of 'reincarnated W124', I just hope that they do a better job with the upcoming E-Class.

I can't fault it. Lots of Mercedes Benz DNA in there and perfectly in keeping with the theme of the car...

Couldn't have said it better myself. I even like it much more than the C-class interior which has too few panels. This interior has flair, personality and MB DNA all over it.

^ Well I do agree that it has MB DNA ......but personality?

Please ...this is the Kevin Costner of auto interiors.
