Is it me, or is AMS getting more retarded with every issue? If they're going to compare these cars from a handling and sports POV the Boxster is the clear winner. Yet they use costs to place the Boxster in second. :t-crazy2: :D

1st Place: Mercedes SLK350 477/650
The SLK represents the traditional strengths of Mercedes: relaxing to drive and long-distance capable as well as comfortable. It wins this comparison because of the cheaper running costs and because it is the better equipped car.

2nd Place: Porsche Boxster S 465/650
In terms of driving dynamics the Boxster S is the clear winner. The handling is precise and the engine sound is thrilling. Its biggest drawback are the high running costs and the price.

Thanks for the scans, Christian!;)

Porsche for me of course, it's performance is crazy with the PDK. 4,6 seconds ... as fast as an M3 DKG

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

There is simply no way I would take the Mercedes over the Porsche in this test. By what I find attractive in a car it beats the Mercedes in every possible way. That said. If you want to use your car as the only car, maybe the Mercedes has qualities the Porsche simply can't match...

Yes it is you. :D That's why they also have a rating without costs. If money is no issue the Cayman finishes first (373:362). ;)

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

Well this is why I find "1st, 2nd, 3rd..." placements to be totally retarded. :t-crazy2:

I mean there should be magazines that keep away from those ways of ranking and rating cars and should just evaluate cars based on what they are. No winners or losers, just an objective review naming their strengths and weaknesses. That's it.

Also, in this comparison I was under the impression that both cars were being compared from a sporty point of view. Then in the end all of a sudden they give the Mercedes the victory based on everyday driveability. Sounds like a cheap way of giving the victory to the Mercedes. I mean we all know the Porsche is going to be the better sports car and the SLK will hands down own it in comfort and everyday usability.

Hear, hear...

I always read reviews in a way that makes sense. I try to find the parts where they talk about the things that are important to me. I guess you all know by now where I stand when it comes to what a car should do for you. Well, I agree with Christian here, the magazines are so full of themselves, they actually think we care which car they prefer? Sigh.

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

Majority of Boxster owners will never care what AMS is going to think anway. Just like me, carreviews are just for fun, my car decision isnt based on one single carjournalists opinion.

BTW the facelifted Cayman is seriously quick. The SLK is owned in performance department. Cant wait for the new Z4 review.

I hear you but that's nothing you can expect from a mainstream magazine like AMS. For that purpose Sportauto would be the better choice.

Anyway I see an benefit in the ranking system. The smart buyer only considers the part of an test that bothers. But all the countless threads with people asking "Which car is better, x or y" show that some are that indecisive, they need guidance. :D

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

0-100km/h in 4.6sec!!!

That's blistering quick, the Cayman has such mad potential. Although there's no denying that the Porsche is very pricey the verdict is a bit retarded. Anyone who value long distance comfort and what not would probably just buy a 335i and call it day.

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

No way the SLK350 is a better sports car than the Boxster, but I guess that isn't what they were judging the cars on for the SLK to win.

Re: AMS: Mercedes SLK350 vs Porsche Boxster S

Cayman is an easy choice for me, but is this supposed to be a Boxster or a Cayman?

Either way, both are great cars...that Cayman with the PDK is insane though....4.6s. Great potential with that transmission.
