AMG M157 Bi-Turbo V8!

Oh, I thought you were talking about the next generation model. I don`t believe BMW will modifiy the currant model`s engine size to 5.5liters.
As I said before that would make the value of the currant model drop like a rock, heck, we just got the currant model here in the US! no modifications or increases in power.

The next generation models will get V12s, I`d be willing to bet on that.

As far as the 100hp increase I was talking about the M5 not M3. ;)

if there ever will be a M7 that car will get a V12. V10 is here to stay and V8 for M3 and I6 for lower models. I bet on that.

E63/CLS63 got more power on same the same plattform, just because M5 has more power than E55. Isnt that kind of lame? :D
If there is a power war going on current M5 E60 is going to get a powerboost too but I dont think it will happen (although it happen before, with M5 E34 and M3 E36. All M CLS versions (M3/M6) of latest plattform is going to get a powerboost.

BTW M5 E34 first had 315hp and later on 340hp, E39 got 400hp.

Don`t bet on a M7! Alpina has got that covered, even in the US.
E63 and CLS has gotton more powerful but not from the same engine!
These 63 AMG cars should be considered as new models because thay will receive a lot of upgrades.

BMW CLS version should be considered as different models to.

E39 M5 had a 400hp V8 but the latest M5 uped that by 107hp and two
more cylinders. I don`t think it will slow down from there.

Take a wild guess why the cars are getting updated ;)

Upgrades come with facelifts at MB, it`s very natural. ;)

it didnt happen with M3 E46 and M5 E39 when they were facelifted. Why do you think it will change now?

MB plays a different market stratagy. Others can play along if thay like!

The project was terminated a while ago. There is just no place for this engine in the AMG lineup.

No more Bi-Turbo V8?
My guess is that MB will offer it first in the S63 (maybe the facelifted w221, but I doubt we'll wait that long), then the CL63 (new CL of course). But I'm not sure about the SL63. I think MB will wait for the next generation SL.
I mean, why give the SL55 a boost with the facelift and not introduce the SL63?

Sorry, but I have to say that a turbo V8 makes sense and is the only logical way to increase performance of the SL/CL/S "63" models over the previous "55" models. The naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 has virtually the same hp 500 vs 515 as the old SC V8 and way less torque. Even with seven gears it won't match the old SC V8 models with the increased weight of the W221 S-Class. A turbo is the only logical way to go. It is torque that moves these larger/heavier cars, not hp. Sure there is a 580hp version of the new 6.2L V8 that is naturally aspirated, but that is more for a sports car not a sedan/coupe/roadster.

Yep, I agree with that Merc1, however bum-man says the project wa terminated a while ago.

Bum-man, do you have any sourses to back this claim?

The next variant of the 6.2L V8 will be a turbocharged version. BMW's head guy just make some comments about the the S63 being "firebreathing" and 515hp and 465lb-ft of torque aren't "firebreathing" in a 4400lb sedan, but 575hp and 600lb-ft of torque are!

Bum-man, remember this thread? AMG boss announced: "for the future, the trend will be turbocharging"
This thread was created in January 9th 2006!!

Hehe

There have been several articles saying that the M157 was stopped because of budgets, it was supposed to be another engine designed and built entirely by AMG.
Just looking at the rumored numbers, the engine would be filling in a gap that does not need to be filled. It would be performing too closely to the V12 and the 55k. So, unless Mercedes plans to discontinue the newly revised 55k and the young V12 then I guess I have to assume they will be introducing something within the year. But I don't think that will happen, at least not for a few more years.

We will see how MB plays the cards out. That article is still fresh!
I don`t think the boss would make changes or terminate the Bi-Turbo V8
overnight.

They'll do the turbo V8 with 570hp and bump the V12s up to 650 hp. Watch and see.

Oh my!! according to this thread it sounds like we will get two versions
of the M157 Bi-Turbo V8!! This info is from the May issue of CAR magazine!

"Hammer1" is a supposed light pressure turbo. (571hp/ 664lb-ft)
"Hammer2" is supposed to have higher boost pressure! (707hp/ 737lb-ft)

If Hammer2 gets that much power the M275 Bi-Turbo V12 used in the S65 AMG might be discontinued! and go with this Hammer2 (unless AMG is preparing a 800hp V12:D )

Thay also say the C63 will be introduced with the M156 n/a V8 but with
450hp, down from the CLKs` 481hp.
