Looking at the figures, the failure of electric models, the 4-cylinder engines in the best-selling AMGs, and the aging compact SUVs are seen as the biggest reasons for the widening sales gap. More minor reasons include delayed model refreshes. Ola's strategic mistakes contributed to this. I expect a recovery in Mercedes sales starting in 2026. Both brands will be swept up in the winds of innovation by 2027. I anticipate a close sales battle in 2027.

Very likely that THE unit sales face-off of 2026/27 regarding the German premium manufacturers will be the BMW ix3 versus M-B GLC EQ and the BMW NKL i3 sedan versus the M-B C-Class EQ sedan. Perhaps even the face-off that will ultimately decide Ola Källenius' professional fate.
