Hybrid sales surge in Q1 as EV demand falters
  • Second monthly drop in registrations since January 2023
  • Rapid decline in demand for electric vehicles in the last month of the quarter
  • Hybrid cars shine, with highest quarterly registrations since 2021
Europe’s new car market struggled in the first three months of the year as persistently high inflation and interest rates led to a slowdown in demand. This is according to the latest data from JATO Dynamics for 28 European markets, which revealed year-on-year declines in registrations in 23 countries, with only 16 markets experiencing any growth in Q1 2024. In March, registrations totalled 1,377,541 units – a decrease of 2.7% compared to the same month last year. However, registrations in Q1 2024 were up 4.8% on Q1 2023, with 3,380,048 units registered in total in the first three months of the year.

What is happening at Mercedes, they seem to be in a slump of sales with almost all models, bar C-class, GLC and GLE?

Honestly , every brand is doing bad right now.

Only a few models "survive" , like the 3er , but that is just because the C class is a piece of garbage.

And the A4 is doing okish .

What's funny is that Tesla 3 still sells better than the C class , while some boys here argued that is way better than the Model 3...

Between January and March, the BMW Group reported pre-tax earnings (EBT) of € 4,162 mi llion(2023: € 5,129 million/-18.9%). The EBT includes a financial result of 108 million (2023: € -246 million), which reflects the market development in interest rate and currency hedging transactions. The EBT margin for this period was 11.4% (2023: 13.9%) and was above the >10% full year target. Group net profit for the first quarter totalled € 2,951 million (2023: € 3,662 million/-19.4%).

BMW has flatlined, biggest drop is 5 series sector. The 7 series not making much of an impact and with 8-series will probably achieve only 60K sales this year. XM slow selling only 2K in 1/4, so probably less than 10K for 2024.
