Don't think these are official photos yet, but they look pretty real to me. The car looks very good. The front looks very similar to the Mi To, but the slightly different shaped headlights made a massive difference to how the front end looked.

2009 Alfa Romeo 149 hatch first look
20 Oct, 2008

Following the design chemistry first introduced with the 8C Competizione then successfully transplanted onto its new MiTo model, Alfa Romeo has revealed its stunning 149 hatch.

A direct rival to the Ford Focus, the new 149 is based on the same platform as the Fiat Bravo which is also shared with the Lancia Delta.

The 147 replacement is deceptively familiar to the new MiTo however features a much more performance oriented design with its raked hind quarters, spoiler, twin exhaust pipes and LED tail-lamps.

It will have the performance to match its good looks, with power expected to come from a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.9-litre diesel unit with power ranging from 90kw to an impressive 185kW.

Available in both three and five door guise, the new Alfa Romeo 149 hatch will go on sale in European markets by mid 2009 with local availability yet to be announced.

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

I think it's lovely but Alfa Romeo's marketing department as stupid for launching the the Mi.To in a colour that's only available to the 8C. All other Alfas are refused this colour.

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

Say wha?? I've read the 159, Brera and 8C are coming here, but nothing on the 149 or even the Mi.To. Where are you getting that info?

Although that is never a safe assumption (how long was the Skyline around before Nissan brought it over?), I hope you're right anyway.

<<fingers crossed>>

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

These look to me like some extremely good chops. anyway if the car lokked anything close to that it would be a jackpot.

OT: Tarek.. your avatar, where?:D

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

If this company didn't have such a bad reputation of being unreliable, this thing would sell sooooo easily. If they can make this car as reliable as a Hyundai, done deal.

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

The design of the 149 is a bit to much Mi.To for my taste. I would have loved a more separate design for this car: More sporty and not so cute, like it looks now. Nevertheless I think, that it is good for Alfa Romeo to get this "new" way for their designs. The C8 was a great beginning, and sadly the sportiness gets lost with the Alfa standard models for everyone…

Re: 2009 Alfa Romeo 149

You don't know how lucky you are.:D

Alfas look nice but a very large percentage of owners has dreadful mechanical problems to report.

Actually most of AR problems are electrical not mechanical, and they are much better now than before:D

These grainy, poorly focused (how hard can it be with a multi-megapixel point 'n shoot cellphone camera?) and blurry pics show the Alfa 147's replacement - the "Milano" in full production garb. Apparently, these cellphone pics were leaked onto facebook.

So, whereas the Mi.To showed high promise for a return to flair for Alfa's crucial compact car line up, this Golf competitor comes across as bulbous and ungainly with less-than-magical detailing.

Notice the BMW-aping horizontally partitioned dashboard layout and the very heavy C-pillar and rear three-quarter view.
