A Dream come true! My new BMW X6 ///M

How awesome!!!! Congratulations! :t-cheers:
Unfortunately, I had to sell my X6 couple of weeks ago because they tried to steal it for the second time. I just had enough of it, the last time they tried to steal it I was almost killed  Now I took new Toyota Land Cruiser instead of it so I can sleep without thinking who is going to shoot at me because of the stupid car :t-hands:

Thanks!:)

:t-banghea You sure you are not living in SA? Sounds all to familiar!:t-banghea

I reckon the Toyota Land Cruiser is not as popular as the X6?

Local time now is 14:20pm and I will collect the X6 in two hours time 16:00pm:t-drive:

WOW congrats Naas i am shure you very excited....

Thank you! I am truly exited, and this time around it's not 'as with' all the cars before - this one is really special IMO. I like to think of this one as "grace";)

I will be leaving for Bloemfontein early tomorrow morning from there to NAMPO Agricultural Show in Bothaville - I will have to take it slow, not only because of the poor rural roads. I have been lectured on the 'running in' of the engine and even the warm up-pre-driving especially now that our winter is basically here.

I will try my best to have the photos of the X6 M ready Thursday afternoon.

I'm pretty sure where I live, and unfortunately that's the place with the similar crime rate as in SA :t-hands:
There are a lot of Cruisers here (Police also bought dozens of them) but for some reason they are not popular among the thieves. Beemers, Mercs, VWs, Audis, Porsches and Renault are considered to be a high risky cars and therefore you have to give a lot of money in order to insure them.

Couple of years ago they also stole my 530xd M pack from my garage (not kidding) and police (not kidding again) gave me the phone number so I can contact those car thieves to discuss the price and where the exchange will be done.

Wow that sucks, luckily here in Finland we don't have to worry much about robberies and stuff. Last year though here were a couple of Ukrainians who were specialized in stealing X6:s, they tried several times to steal one and when they finally succeeded they were caught. I wonder if it's the same league that tried to steal yours? Sorry for stealing your thread Naas. :D

First drive and experience

Hey guys, first of all I would like to apologize for the poor photo's - taken with my Blackberry late yesterday afternoon (16:45). I had to wait for the wife to come home with the X1 and the sun setting in the West (Southern hemisphere) made for bad light.

I think best to honestly explain my experience of the new X6 ///M, I will make a comparison between the X6 50i and X6 ///M.

OK, apart from trim and color differences and the cosmetic ///M treatment the new X6 M is all too familiar - and that is where the similarities end.;)

Drive:

My trip from Bethlehem to Bloemfontein onto Bothaville and the NAMPO agricultural show. (one way = 470 km)

Let me begin by the 'sound' - The X6 50i has an deep and angry growl and the typical resonance of a 'old school V8'. Disappointed at first the X6 M is quiet, no spine tingling growl at idle or at normal speed/revs.

On the open road - Now here is when and how I felt my eyes water, tears of surprise, joy and excitement. Yes, it is my first ///M car and the haters of BMW ///M making an M-SAV I respect that but in comparison to the 50i it's hard to describe the TOTALLY different nature and drive between the two.

I will give it my best shot: The X6 ///M has a Dr. Jackal & Mr. Hyde persona.
Driving off is all quiet and composed, tap the throttle and the free revving nature of the Twin Turbo V8 is worlds apart from the 50i. This car has a totally different temper, sound and 'soul'. The words ///M immediately makes sense and the Magic they make! If our own Martin did not know about the X6 M or haven't heard nor read about it, even he - the master of drive train engineering on GCF could IMO be convinced that this V8 Twin Turbo was a NA engine! Because of it's free revving nature. ;)

Push the M button and plant your foot....OMG! The sound emitted by the 4 tailpipes is DUCATI Superbike (sorry BMW Motorrad):D But that is the truth and noting but the truth. The car is also more planted to the road and the lack of wind noise compared to the 50i instantly evident, so the 'body kit' was engineered on the track. The power surge is instant and intimidating so much so that the 50i feels like grandma's car...

In the end I am convinced that after owning a V8 TT 50i and now the -
V8 TT ///M even Betty Swollocks would give BMW M the thumbs up!:usa7uh:

One thing is the lack of the sense of speed - SAV!? Yes! It's higher center of gravity steals the 'ass to the tar' experience...unfortunately.

Yes, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo is the newer, more advanced car with the much better cabin. I do not have the money for it. And I can't imagine it being R200 000.00+ (more expensive than the X6 M) better that the X6 M.

Regards!
Naas
:t-cheers:

The wife and the X1 + Run-On-Flat

My wife was travelling from Bethlehem to Clocolan (Free State Province) and hit a pothole between Ficksburg and Clocolan. One standard GoodYear Run-On-Flat R/H 225 R18 front tire gone! She drove on and did her business in Clocolan and drove back to Bethlehem +/- 170 km @ 75km/h with the cruise control on.

I was at the opposite side of the Free State Province in Bothaville when this happened. She got home safely and the BMW local dealer had stock of the same tire which was fitted yesterday @ R2700.00:t-banghea

The evidence....

HUH!? It's just criminal! Now I have heard it all. Can you imagine......

Congratulations in advance Naas. Heck, have they found platinum or uranium reserves in Bethlehem?!? ;) :D

1.3 Bar. Dis nie rond-speletjies daai!

All the best boeta!
:t-cheers:

And so free revving, it's unbelievable! ( Read my review ) I thought of you first when I realized how different it is compared to the 50i.

Talking of reserves, heck I had to drive to NAMPO (as an enthusiastic driver it's for the better:t-drive:) but there where 212 private Helicopters @ NAMPO on Wednesday! Never heard how many planes actually, but there where more than a 100 by the looks of it.
