A-Class (W169) A-Class a success.

The second generation A-Class (W169) produced from 2004 to 2012 was the last one classified as a supermini / B-segment vehicle.

They're so fun to drive and handle like a sports car. For a subcompact car like the A-Class, let me say that there was very little body roll in corners. Amazing. I'd honestly label this car as the 3rd most sportiest Benz after the SLK and revised C-Class. Here's my recent A-Class testdrive: A170. Loved it. :eusa_clap

Sorry Wimmer, but I couldn't disagree more. I drove the exact same A170 of a girlfriend of mine (with AMG package and 7-speed I believe), and I truly hated the ride. I truly cannot believe you say it handles like a sports car :t-rot:
Third most sportiest Benz????????? What have you been smoking Wimmer? A VW Golf handles way better than a Mercedes A, let alone ALL the other Mercedes passenger cars.

well i hated the A class to..and then i drove the new one..

its freakin gr8..the interior feels good,,, it drives good,, it looks good imho..

no wonder it sells..plus it has a low price for the Star..

and ppl love the STAR

Cheapest Mercedes interior ever, and it certainly does not drive good. LOL. Better than the last perhaps, but the whole A class concept of Mercedes is a joke. Of course it sells well, Mercedes wouldn't make a second gen A if they weren't sure to make money off it. But that doesn't mean the car is good for MB. At all.

And I have to DISAGREE with you here. The A-Class is a pretty sporty ride for a FWD subcompact. I found them to be capable and solid on local roads here. They inspire confidence through the stiff suspension and weighted and precise steering. The responsive steering is really the thing that makes me say "sporty Mercedes". It is much better than the E-Class or CLS-Class and right behind the SLK and C-Class.

Of course they won't touch a BMW in handling etc., but by itself, I find the A-Class to be an extremely agile and capable little car. Capable enough to satisfy some of the sporting needs of whomever drives it. What trim level did you drive? Classic?

FYI, I am a strict non-smoker.

Imagine a A-class beating a Porsche 911 around a track :D What a shock for Porsche owners :D

That would never happen, but for your average kean driver, the A-Class will be a satisfying ride. The B-Class on the other hand drives like a boat.:eusa_doh:

I dont see A and B-class as tracktools or as joy-rides. I like the design of B better than A so B-class is my choice even if it feels like im riding the waves :D

The B-Class does look better, but I'd take an A-Class. :eusa_danc

I still follow his photography on facebook. He told me a while ago that he just grew tired of the nonsense here and got busy with life. Always appreciated his pictures, his car reviews, etc.

There are some harsh comments in this thread on the A-Class. It is selling like hotcakes here in Australia and I cannot work out why people are saying it is a terrible car?? Sounds like a few of you have some expensive cars and you don't want the 'common' person to be associated with your self-diagnosed elevated 'class'.

I have only driven the A250 so I cannot comment on the other variants in the range - but I loved it. I got to drive an E250 and a C250 at length when my car was being serviced and I found them very nice, but also very boring (an image Merc is trying to shake!). The A250 is very similar in pricing to the Golf GTI (GTI needs to be optioned up to meet it) but looks 1000 times better and is very similar in performance in my opinion. The little things like the interior, the sound of the AMG exhaust......etc make it a nice car when you consider it hits the road in the mid 50k segment here in Australia. Mercedes were trying to get in on the market that BMW and Audi were dominating with the 1 series/A3 and they have done it very well. New people are being introduced to the brand and sales/profits are up for the company.

I have now sold my A250 due to a growing family and purchased a BMW 328 Touring M-Sport. I am really going to miss that little car.

There are indeed, but please keep in mind that apart from the last very few replies, the rest of the posts are from 2005 and 2006.

Damn, my last post here is 9 years ago! I almost don't believe it.
