C-Class A C Class is not a REAL Mercedes? What about the CLA?

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

I have a 2015 C300 Luxury with all the bells and whistles like the Nav with multimedia package, Burmester sound system, Panoramic roof, Blind spot monitors, etc. Since getting the car I have had people tell me a C class isnt a REAL mercedes and I should have spent more and gotten a base model E class instead of a fully decked out C. I had to give my car to Mercedes for service and they gave me a stripped E class sedan as a loaner. Other than the extra space I dont see anything special about this. Sound system isnt close to mine, no blind spot monitors either, no nav and you cant watch DVDs in it. Plus now the C, E and S all look the SAME except for their size. Where did this mentality come from that a C Class isnt a real mercedes? What about the CLA? is that considered "Real" ? Is a 3 Series BMW a "Real" Bimmer?

It really depends on which age group you are from, for the old timers, nothing but the S-class is considered the real Mercedes, it is one of the best cars in the world and that is what a Mercedes should be. For the younger generations, anything with a 3 pointed star on the front and rear is a Mercedes. Having said that you can clearly see the A and the CLA, aren't built to the same standard as the rest of the Mercedes range. even though they feel pretty smooth to drive.

Regardless of what "these people" are telling you, the C300 is still a very nice car, and if it does everything you need/want, then it is fine.

As long as you've got an engine mounted length-ways and a propshaft driving the rear wheels - you've got a real deal Mercedes in the traditional idiom.

I am 32. No wife or kids and the only person who rides with me sometimes is my girlfriend when we go out. I like small, nimble cars that are somewhat fun to drive and easy to maneuver in traffic. If I could afford it I would get the C63 AMG S as my next car instead of a big car like the S class that will be driven by myself without any passengers 99 percent of the time.

If anything, Mercedes brought the CLA so that the C class could be 'A real Mercedes'. It has all the character traits that a Mercedes should.

You like small nimble cars but you bought a C class? May I ask why?

Small, 4 door sedans I mean. I could survive with a coupe easily since I dont have kids or a wife but I like having 4 doors since its my only car and my daily driver.

Them people may be very narrow minded or old fashioned to say that, the C has always been a true MB since the legendary 190.

I think over at the states the C-class is considered as a small car.

Fair enough, the thought crossed my mind after posting. Yeah, the C probably is one of the smallest cars over there (as sad as that is).

They do get the CLA over there, I don't know how they classify that.
