718 Cayman s vs. C63

I am considering to buy the new Cayman s... At that price point, there are a lot of alternatives however such as the new Mercedes c63 amg. Any advice? Also anyone have an opinion on how to spec the Cayman s?

If practicality isn't important then Cayman S anyday of the week.

I saw these not long ago. White color is stunning.

That's true... But the new turbocharged boxers are quick as hell... What else worth mentioning is in that price range?

Manual. The Cayman is a driver's car after all.

I'd take the Porsche over the MB, and an M3/4 over the Porsche.

Hmm, I don't know if that's a good choice. I haven't heard the engine yet, but the ons who have, say it sounds like a VW Beetle and bit souless. Part of the Porsche sensation is the engine sound imo.
That's what I read too, but I went to listen to the booster which was released earlier than the Cayman. It's not the mb v8 sound but it's probably the best sounding Wrx I've ever heard - even without sports exhaust

Yeah the engine is supposed to be it's downside. But for the rest the car is a nimble and fun driver's tool. Pretty much what I desire.

The Benz is too much of a comfy muscle car for my liking. Also fantastic of course, but not for me.

I can't comment on the new turbo'd Cayman S which is the car in question here but what I can say is that PDK in the pre-718 Cayman S (i.e. 981) is so good that it in no way detracts from it as a driver's car. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that even if you're absolutely fukkin epic with your fancy footwork (which I am - just sayin' ;) ) PDK is still the rational choice for a non-specialist model Cayman. It's magnificent how it allows the driver to focus on steering and braking accuracy whilst still imbuing the motoring experience with tons of visceral, emotive appeal.

As such, given the softening of the Cayman's engine response I would now say that PDK is actually even more of a necessity now in the age of the turbo'd fours. If you're buying a Cayman S - I recommend PDK.

Sounds like we have the same taste... The engine really isn't a downside btw.. It drives better than a 2012 c4s. Anything else you would consider? Lexus rcf? Alfa c4? Jaguar f type?

Partly agree. Every DCT is amazing, even the one found in a Golf.

But where possible, I'd NEVER take an automatic Porsche.

I always thought manual until I drove a pdk the other day. Still debating

Haha, I know what you mean. The PDK is an absolute gem.

If the DCT in a Golf is amazing it doesn't hold a candle to Porsche's spookily good PDK. So, sorry, can't agree there.
