A5/S5/RS5 2027 RS 5 Avant Sedan and Avant

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
The M3 spent its entire life cycle crushing rivals left and right; you can put something newer, more expensive, more powerful in front of it, it will not hesitate to win and by a wide margin, it will go down in history as unbeatable.

Which is not entirely fair for the Audi, because it came to market in a different time, where a pure ICE sports car like the M3 has simply become a no-go.

The G80 was just in time, otherwise it would have been a mini M5. And with the soon to arrive EV M3, the next gen ICE M3 can become a mild non plugin hybrid.

By most accounts so far, the RS5 does the hybrid sports car thingy better than the current M5.

So far it seems to be the most successful "performance phev" sports car yeah with the most focus on playful and fun handling, surprising from Audi.

Would've still been nice to have a lighter MHEV RS 5 focused on razor sharp handling inspired by the Comp pkg B9 RS 5s though.

I think in isolation the RS 5 is awesome, but will still be out matched next to the upcoming G84(and G88?) M3/M3T, PHEV at the end of the day brings too many physical compromises. Crazy what a 2 year difference (RS5 being greenlit during, M3 2 years after) does to the development cycle.

High-performance luxury plug-in hybrids have had a tough time with us lately. The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance is blisteringly fast, but its overly stiff suspension and extra weight make it unwieldy to drive hard (or slow).

More here

Here I’ve to disagree, it’s only overly stiff compared to a S-Class.

It’s only a little bit harsh at very low speeds ( under 30mph).

Even for me as an comfort freak, the suspension wouldn’t put me off.

Can you elaborate a bit, what the RS5 does better ... and what isn't simply due to the fact, that the RS5 is a one level smaller vehicle category?

Yeah I am not even sure about what's better, but I just see the reviews and they seem to be more positive than what I've seen from the M5 initial reviews.

More alive, I suppose. But that could well be because of what you say; this car's a class below and thus per definition slightly more nimble.

All these PHEV performance car are an absolute dead end though. It simply does not work.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
