The M3 spent its entire life cycle crushing rivals left and right; you can put something newer, more expensive, more powerful in front of it, it will not hesitate to win and by a wide margin, it will go down in history as unbeatable.
Which is not entirely fair for the Audi, because it came to market in a different time, where a pure ICE sports car like the M3 has simply become a no-go.
The G80 was just in time, otherwise it would have been a mini M5. And with the soon to arrive EV M3, the next gen ICE M3 can become a mild non plugin hybrid.
By most accounts so far, the RS5 does the hybrid sports car thingy better than the current M5.
