A5/S5/RS5 2027 RS 5 Avant Sedan and Avant

I returned from Neckarsulm, you can make a drive on the highway these things until 25th. This car eat everything, air, road, you feel it so glued to the street, but you feel its weight when you have to take a medium to slow speed corners. The high speed corners are a bless
This is heavy and more powerful than the last rs4 that i drove decades ago, around 420hp. But also because this wants to be also a daily driver car they put so little extra downforce compared to that 420bhp that the extra weight is a bit welcomed. Just my feelings, but too much power for me

Better than the chronically congested Autobahn A6 heading north towards Mannheim, the rural roads of the Kraichgau just north of Neckarsulm would also be great for checking out the new RS5. I've always loved that particular region.

Knockout styling tbh. I love the muscular fenders so much and the 6-spoke wheels are gorgeous.

I'll take one without the PHEV, Audiusa. Thanks.

This is very good regarding handling. Agile and with little understeer.

What I find, regardless, though, is that if understeer thinks about settling in, more throttle and more steering don’t see the nose pushed ever wider. Instead that rear motor cranks in the inside wheel, overspeeds the outside wheel and pushes the rear of the car outwards, tightening the line. Yes, of course that mullers the tyres, but it’s a hoot.

Even on the road, that rear axle makes itself very obvious, acting like active rear-steer would to nudge the car’s line into the corner, thereby reducing the amount of steering lock one needs, and making the car feel more agile than it would. And because an electric motor can braking a wheel more quickly than an active steer can adjust its angle, the system has clocked on, done its work and clocked off in a flash as you turn in. You know it’s doing it, but by the time you’re conscious of it, it’s all but over, leaving a car that feels naturally perky.

There are a few different ways to disguise a car’s mass, but I don’t think I’ve discovered one that makes a car of this size and weight feel quite so alert as it does.

The reviews have been very positive and the RS5 is one of the best drivers Audis in quite some time. Despite the high weight the car is very agile, with a drifting mode allowing nice movement of the rear end and oversteer galore.

I think other manufacturers will put an electric motor in diffs of hybrid performance cars.

However, nothing says green-washing as much a rear diff that shreds rear tyres like Parmesan anytime you apply more than 25% throttle out of a tight-ish bend.🙄

Can’t remember the last time I liked an Audi this much.

The last time that I was absolutely floored by a new Audi was when the series I Audi A7, and especially S7/RS7, was presented. That was approx. 16 years ago. Since then...a few pleasant cars...a number of disappointments...frequent yawnfests.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
