It actually wouldn't look that bad with the twin corona rings back in place, almost a Gran Lusso feel with the headlights and grille being lined up along a virtual 'eyebrow' above.

Even the dual headlights aren't completely out of question in theory as they've already been implemented on multiple X vehicles, albeit in a small circular form, however this here is way too Citroën/Škoda/Hyundai. Or are they trying to emulate Rolls-Royce?

I always felt conflicted when they did this...

... but with it being quite common these days I'd be alright with it. It really depends how it's executed, and my faith in that being 'well', still isn't that high.

Pfff. That's just what every car company seems to be doing these days. And not the most interesting ones: Skoda, Citroen, Hyundai... Not the competitors BMW wants to follow styling wise IMO.

That was presented in 2006 and without fear of being wrong it was the first thing that was seen in this matter, I was waiting for it to be incorporated into some of the models because I loved the detail, it was groundbraking at that time.
But as with so many other small and large design details that BMW presents in its concepts and does not take them to production, it seems that it gave them as ideas to others to use, sometimes it is disappointing to end up seeing it in Hyundais 15 years later.

Some more obscure rumours suggest that Jozef Kaban was an instrumental figure in a since dismissed project by Skoda aimed to transform the "Laurin & Klement" trim & option package into a bonafide sub-brand. The development of an introductory large stand-alone "L & K" luxury sedan was well underway when Kaban left Skoda for BMW. ;):cautious:.

Hardly less original than using the same headlamp arrangement they, and their competitors currently are though.

I don't know if it's fair to say it was a first or not, but certainly looking back, Anders Warming has contributed a lot to BMW designs over the years, and I feel is somewhat under rated.

They have a rational approach, following the new rectilinear parameters seen in the camouflaged prototypes, a good outcome to what has been assumed, radical with modernized retro stylistic details, it is how an E32 of the 2022, I like it, obviously the front and the rear are very similar to the current one, but as an imagination they are not bad either

"A face only a mother would love..."

You sound like a mother....

If this get's real , W223 will be a joke in terms of controversy....

Lukiki, I am your mother

If there is something that the W223 is not at all, it is precisely controversial, but totally evolutionary.
Controversy seems like a sport today, the change after several generations that are similar is welcome and if it is radical and unexpected but well achieved, you will have a success.
You have to see the final result, but those renderings take away some doubts about the intriguing nature of the camouflaged mules.
