Fascinating story-telling, entertaining anecdotes involving encounters with Ferdinand Piech, Eberhard von Kühnheim, Bernd Pieschetsrieder, Jacques Nasser, Edzard Reuter, The Quandts among others.
And now Pieschetsrieder is President of the supervisory board of Daimler:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Any information about the G70 in the video?

That video has nothing whatsoever to do with the new 7er. I don't know why it's posted here in this thread.

Still, Reitzle is my all time favorite 'BMW man'. Flawless perfection. Reitzle and then Bangle. They made BMW what it is today.

And now Pieschetsrieder is President of the supervisory board of Daimler

He got Rolls Royce for BMW. And Land Rover, which was the starting point of the BMW X5 and all other X models.

And being President of the Supervisory Board of xxx company is something one does after retirement.

The reason I posted the Reitzle interview Part One was because of the elaborations regarding the "Mercedes-Benz S-Class versus BMW 7 Series" rivalry which has its' direct origins in the era of the W108 and E3. This rivalry will soon introduce a new BEV chapter involving the EQS and i7. Hence, the Reitzle interview is indeed relevant. Adding Part Two is due to the positive response Part One received.

I couldn't think of a better place to post it without opening a new thread. Maybe the mods can move the Reitzle interviews to a more suitable platform.

You explained well enough above, and I think it's fine. I hadn't seen/heard Prof. Dr. Reitzle in ages, so this was just marvelous to experience to be honest. He's still looking sharp!

I like Reitzle, but Gerard Richter is the man. His stewardship at BMW M was great. Shame his leadership was wasted on the aborted Concept CS production car development.

I'd love to know what it says, I'll see if I can translate it somehow

That front is going to be either hated or loved. Certainly going to be the biggest talking point of this car.

The grill is going to be huge and the bonnet line quite high for a luxury saloon. The bonnet shutline doesnt look great, quite a big gap with the front line and bumper edge.

The nose may be a Pandora's Box of sorts. But otherwise, the G70/71 is looking pretty clean so far.

@LaArtist will like the new 7er front.

As sad as it is, it is the exact same config. Even the LEDs on the upper part are split in two like BMW intents to do.

Unless the final picture is totally different than what the spy pics suggest, this split headlights approach is one of the worst design ideas I can remember from BMW.

I think it could be the biggest evolutionary step for BMW design in a very, very long time. I'm betting it will be the grille that lets it down, rather than the lighting arrangement, personally, and I can't see that tail-end working out well, so the car's likely to be a munter - but I don't think it's going to be because of the lights.

What makes it worse is the fact that it isn’t even an original idea. It’s one thing to come up with something disruptive and completely different, but in this case the split headlight idea has been used by Citroen models, Nissan Juke, Rolls Royce, etc.

A single headlamp assembly isn't an original idea, so how is this worse?

I'm not all too concerned regarding the rear end. Perhaps a higher registration plate placement would be an "aesthetic improvement", but I think that the taillamps will be quite alright. As for the upright rear sideglass and C-pillars...not at all certain how that may pan out when all swirly-foil is removed. The flank sculpturing and dialogue with the wheelarches and flush door handles looks fine. The nose is anybody's guess at this stage. Should the grill not excessively intrude into the hoods sheetmetal, that may be acceptable.
