If so, that would be very good news. I still refuse to believe however, MB is abandoning the classic, luxury 4 door, 3-box sedan design. My personal alternative to that classic design is a Coupé, but most of those are going to be axed. Hard times ahead.
What about the 8er? Is that a coupé that will continue to please our eyes in future?

It seems the 8er Coupe and Cabrio will be axed, with only the 8er GC remaining in the line up.

This was the info for the 2021 US market. In Europe the coupe and cabrio are supposed to continue. Or you mean the next generation?

Next gen. I highly doubt the current coupe and cabrio are going to axed anywhere. But the 8er segment is rapidly extinguishing. Nor the S-Coupe/Cabrio nor the CLS and AMG GT 4dr are going to have successors, so it is easy to see where that leaves the 8er.

You would have to suspect the next 8 will be an EV no?

New Ideas are certainly interesting.

Please bmw, at least keep the angel eye design for the headlights

Right, if the ultra slim upper light casings will be housing little U-shape corona rings the honor will be saved. However, given the 5er LCI, the next 2er AT spyshots, and the current 3er which has already lost the U-shape inner segment (but still looks great), it seems like BMW has fully committed to going L-shape all across the board, i.e. the Škoda/Jag/[insert generic brand] way.

Ahhh...a BMW concept illustration perhaps ? This looks very interesting indeed. Promising dare I say ? And I suppose that we can rest assured that it will never come to fruition in production form.

I remember @SCOTT27 posted this picture when talking about proposed ideas for the next 2er coupe. Apparently, BMW decided not to go with the more "interesting ideas" for that car. Wouldn't we all appreciate concrete information about the next 7er from an insider like @SCOTT27? We still haven't heard anything other than BMW has the capabilities to do thinner lights now.

If the cost of launching a car with super slim headlights is having the proper lenses separated, then do not follow the super slim headlights route.

Easy!

I am going to go on a limb here and make a prediction....

I think the 7er's front end is not going to have a split headlight situation. I think the current exposed headlights on the testing mules will be similar to the VFL concept we saw 5 years ago. It may not be as slim, but it'll be similar. In fact, I think the car's overall shape is VFL-esque, however the cladding obscures that.

The X7 and X8 (or XM or whatever will be called) is more likely to get the split headlight set-up as that will complement the SUV's upright, truck-like front end moreso than a 3 box sedan. But there all three will sare visual cues, i.e. grille, to maintain a unifying identity for their upper-end segment of the line-up.

I have not seen what they plan to do. But I have discussed it. (Genes from Next100 beginning to be born)
What I can tell you is that we will get a better idea next year when they showcase something that begins to Illustrate their intentions. As what we already know is that the prototypes are using place holder lights which when the full optics appear we will get to see what they are aiming for.

I always wondered why the didn’t follow through with an ultra modern 2CV which Revolte showcased potential for one. It would be a perfect fit for DS.

Oh yes, Citroen has revealed so many interesting concepts with great ideas not ending up in production cars..

It's really not that bad. Quite alright for a "truck" actually. Do I sense some sort of Dodge Ram vibe ?
I honestly thought it was a Skoda.
The 1500 Ram (new body) is IMO the best looking truck out there esp. in Limited trim.
It don't see anything in common with this render though.

A new sedan/4 door coupé concept-car scheduled for 2021? CS Concept 2007, Vision Future Luxury 2014, the timing is right.
