What do you think, Panter, BMW will ruin the kidneys?

Unfortunately, yes my friend, we already know that there won't be horizontal grille (at least at the beginning), there's no hood shutline in that render (not that it bothers me like it does klier :D ), front bumper will not look that aggressive and lower part of headlights won't be shaped like that, but rectangular.

I also like that render (with bigger wheels it would look perfect), but we're not that lucky... :(

Relax….
This looks like his AutoBild 5er Render. Which when the prototypes showed up they didn’t look anything like it.

what does that mean ?

It's the artist's name. His renders only get accurate when we already know how it looks, when the car is in final FEP and wears nothing but a bit of tape here and there, his renders become sort of good (and off even then).

We can clearly see the outlines of the grille in this spy shot

The camo is still pretty effective though. I wonder when the next layer peels off.

I have a feeling that they will ruin more than the kidneys.

I have grown up around BMW's admiring them since I was a 6-7 year old kid. The E21, the E30 and the E34 are the catalysts of my love for cars that continues to this day.... and as a long time BMW admirer, I am on the verge of giving up, guys..I am truly sorry.

Sure, they are still making some great csrs but for me, what made BMW's magical was that combination of a sporty drivetrain, "relative" exclusivity and those beautifully understated designs. The exclusivity factor was already long gone, to generate more cash for the company, which I somewhat understood and came to terms with.

However, what I simply cannot stomach is that the BMW Design section seem to have completely lost the plot.

I mean, besides the first-gen 2-series (especially the M2), as well as the current 8-Series, what other model did we see since the beginning of this century, whose design lived up to that "beautifully understated" image the BMW's had throughout their history?

I understand and basically agree. Do think however there are more exemptions, than the one you mentioned. Beautifully understated in my eyes were the last two iterations of the 5 series.
Don’t know what it is, but I got a feeling they get the new 7er right, against all odds. To me even more important is, they get the interior right, designwise and above all qualitywise.

I feel like BMW is about to completely dominate the ICE segment for the rest of it's days. Polarizing designs and if all the new engines are true, searing performance, and all the tech possible. While Mercedes shuts down ICE making ICE buyers miserable or leave the brand.
