New 2020 Skoda Superb spied completely undisguised ahead of reveal.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. The superb is one of the best looking and well equipped car on the market.

The L&K trim has toys and kit that you will only find in the S, 7 and A8.

My only complaint is that the ride on adaptive dampers isnt as supple as in a 5 Series. Imperfections are ironed beautifully but big bumpers and pot holes aren't absorbed as well as in the BMW.

Other than that, a used L&K with turbine alloys is a fantastic package.

Which toys exactly?

This car is cheaper so you should forgive it.

Fair point. 600kg Moose is not a worldwide threat to driv...
But a sudden emergency lane change is. This is what most drivers face in collision avoidance and it's got some pretty wayward manners. Armco, meet Skoda.

I don't know about other countries but in the UK the majority of motoring accidents happen close to home in 30mph zones. The majority of deaths on motorways here occur on shoulders where a stationary car gets hit.

This is contrary to the belief that there is a big risk of Michael Bay-esque car explosions on motorways that end with flipped cars and mushroom clouds of fire. :D:rolleyes:

Although the Moose test has credibility, isn't it sometimes safer to let the car crash with an object ahead than swerving and risk ending up worse off?

Debatable point, needing to take many factors into consideration such as speed. You really don't want to rear-end a truck at speeds of 80 km/h and above; things starts to get injurious. Swerve maneuvers happen all over the place, rural roads, fast-flowing urban and freeways. What you want is a car that reacts to steering inputs whilst still engaging the ESP - quite unlike that Skoda that goes off - literally - on a tangent as that's exactly when you do leave road and roll into a ditch. Nasty outcomes. Personally, I respect the "moose test" as it's representative of an emergency swerve or lane-change with or without an actual moose involved.

I had this Superb, not an estate by the way, and it had some strange weight transfer when making a sharp turn with an optimistic speed. Despite the ESP (which can be deactivated only for a minute or so, after which it activates by itself) you fell the car behavior clumsy and insecure.

That is true. However isn't it better to crash head on in a car given that the front is the area there beer designed to absorb impact? As opposed to swerving at high speed and potentially collide the side of the car with another object?

I have only driven the Superb saloon and with adaptive damper I found body roll to be surprisingly controlled. Understandably fast changes in direction from left to right is a more demanding manoeuvre.

Are ESP modules in many cars still developed and supplied by Bosch?

Truly shocking behavior from the Skoda. The rear suspension and tyres allows too much dangerous oversteer in quick heavy steering movements and the ESP didn’t look like it’s working at all to control the slip. As this car is probably front wheel drive you would expect it to push wide in the front with more weight over the front axle but this is the total opposite. Imagine you driving this car on a mountain pass and suddenly a rolling boulder falls into the road and you try to swerve it and the car’s rear end breaks loose and you will basically slide off the edge of the cliff rear and first into the valley. A nasty accident.
