IS/RC 2020 Lexus IS

To EU and luxury brands: to be a credible brand in Europe you have to be extraordinary and go after tech and innovation. If you don’t, you won’t make it. Look at Lexus, they’re barely surviving in Europe and still are a niche. Nowhere near the Germans. Inifiniti completely failed and pulled out. Acura has minimal sales. Genesis will give it a shot and we’ll see how that goes. I think they have a chance but it’ll be very difficult.

It looks very very good. The predator design language has been tame and the front is palatable. A heavily facelifted cabin is a downer but I don't mind it as it looks good eventhough the screen is tacked on.

The Supra, new Corolla and Yaris GRM drives very well. Hopefully some of their magic is shared with the IS. However the cynic in me suspect that this is just a heavy facelift - a low effort to keep a foot in the segment before exiting in 3 years.

In truth and relative terms, the Lexus IS is a fringe product on the periphery of this market segment. There are only three main players: 3 Series, A4, C-Class, in alphanumeric order. Anything else is a niche offering in comparison.

Do you really believe Lexus will quit this segment too?[/QUO...
Pulling it out of Europe puts Lexus in that path. If sales the US are dissatisfactory while the Tesla Model S picks up in Japan and China then Lexus will likely discontinue the IS.

Sounds likely then. I wonder what will happen with the LS, since what the company has on the pipeline seems to be a fleet of SUVs.

It's a good thing that Lexus still tops the charts in the reliability surveys, because without that, they are pretty much pointless. I mean, give me another reason to buy a Lexus over a German rival? Reliability? Fine. What else? *cricket sounds*

Toyota should make an electric LS asap or else the model will fall behind its equivalents by Mercedes and Jaguar.

A Lexus is the only modern car I would dare to own without warranty.

Looks good and has a solid built interior as all Lexus’ do, but there’s a car in this segment that has those qualities and much much more.

To me, Lexus is a car which you can get all the benefits of owning a Toyota, but get the presence of a luxury european brand. And of course, owning a Toyota means it never breaks or if it does, it wouldn't cost much to fix.

I must be one of the only people that actually has major positive vibes about this car. I like the exterior styling a lot cause it is so different and doesn’t look like any other car, no copy cat tail lights and definitely has a striking front end with that huge grill.

It may have some resemblance to the previous model in some parts of the exterior, like the door handles and C pillar trim but it’s different. A bit like comparing one 3 series from another for example a E90 with F30 there seems to have a resemblance with the shape of greenhouse and Hoffmeister kink but it’s different

The interior looks similar at first glance to the previous model but if you look in detail it is actually new and totally different. Totally different infotainment system and side vents and even central vents are different. I like is also cause it’s smart and stylish and different to rivals

That general sentiment about reliability being the reason to buy applies to almost everything Toyota makes, though they do make comfortable family appliance cars like no other. A Camry or Corolla can become like a trusted family member lol.

Lexus made a huge fuss for a refresh of a car that should be replaced by an entirely new one by now. Toyota is being lazy and arrogant and treating Lexus like shit.
