Genesis G90 to be revealed on December 9 with minor price hike

Hyundai has announced the Genesis G90 will receive its official premiere in South Korea on December 9.

The Equus is on its way to retirement as Hyundai’s full-size sedan will make the switch to the newly founded Genesis luxury sub-brand that was announced earlier this month. Along with the brand name change, the model will lose its “Equus” moniker in favor of the rather uninspiring “G90” nameplate and this will be the first of six models to form the Genesis lineup by the end of the decade. The flagship model has already been teased and will get a proper reveal in its domestic market on December 9 and it will be sold there as the “EQ900.”

According to a high-rank company official, the EQ900 will be a little bit more expensive than its predecessor as a result of the model’s repositioning. He went on to specify the car’s new status will not command a significant premium, but at the same time he admitted there will be an increase given the upgraded components and the new technologies set to be implemented in the range-topper.

From what we know so far, the Genesis EQ900 / G90 will be motivated by a 3.8-liter V6 GDI naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 334 PS (246 kW), a newly developed twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 with 370 PS (272 kW), and a larger V8 5.0-liter N/A engine that will produce 425 PS (313 kW). All three of them will be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional AWD setup.

Following the G90’s release, the lineup will grow to include the Hyundai Genesis-replacing G80, a smaller G70 sedan, coupe, mid-size crossover, and a big SUV. The G90 will go on sale in South Korea in December while the rest of the world will have to wait until early next year.

The center console reminds me a little bit to Lexus.
Maybe I'm wrong but this was the first what came in my mind.

Yes the airvents with clock in middle look just like the Lexus models. I think they trying to give the instrument with navi screen a little bit of an S-class look but it fails terribly. Those silver switches on the middle console remind of those on an A-class Merc and also the door handles look like BMW F01 7 series.

This cars interior is boring as hell, no originality in its design and the materials look cheap.

Ι recognize parts from all 3 big germans, Audi, BMW and MB. They should be proud!

:D

Some fans on worldcarfans.com are saying this looks better than the current A8.
not as boring etc.

And despite it's a 50.000€ car, it still has the windows switches from the i10. For f's sake!

Genesis G90 photographed undisguised ready to tackle luxury segment
The Genesis G90 is making an early unofficial debut courtesy of several images showing an undisguised pre-production prototype.

We don’t have to wait for the model’s reveal set for December 9 as these pics from South Korea reveal the car’s exterior design and the “EQ900” lettering as it will be known locally. For the rest of the world, Hyundai’s newly developed Genesis brand will sell the flagship model with the “G90” moniker and the car will effectively replace the outgoing Equus.

Previewed by a couple of teasers released earlier this month, the G90 is obviously a full-size sedan that will aim to grab more sales in the highly competitive luxury segment. It will be a tad more expensive than its predecessor, but this isn’t really a surprise given the model’s new status as a truly premium model.

In terms of engines, customers will get to choose from a 3.8-liter V6 GDI with 334 PS (246 kW), a new 3.3-liter V6 twin-turbo with 370 PS (272 kW) and a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 425 PS (313 kW). These three motors will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels, but an optional AWD will likely be offered as well.

The “elegantly designed” exterior as its being described by Genesis will be combined with a “technology packed” interior featuring a more upscale fit and finish as you would expect from a premium large sedan.

The G90 / EQ900 will go on sale next month at home in South Korea before hitting international markets in 2016.

Looks like a fake Bentley. It should be the ideal car for someone that wears a fake Rolex.

someone that wears a fake Rolex
Well, you beat me, but going to say the same. Owning a car like this, with so many design clues from other cars, is like wearing a fake watch. I prefer a hundred time to drive an Accord or Mazda 6 to a wannabe.
