I have been driving Mercedes (different models) for last 20 years. I am so disappointed by quality of the 2015 S550. Wonder if anyone else faced similar issues or feel strongly about the vehicle usability issues.

1. 3 times in last 2 years the 'engine air-intake elbow pipe' (curved L shaped plastic pipe) under the engine area comes off on minor bumps on the road, seen dangling and scraping the road...service tried to fix by putting a screw...came off again...anyone experienced the same? Roadside came lifted the car and pulled it out and said they come off all the time..Really??? anyone else experienced the same?

2. I can't understand who is the Genius at MB who designed the cigarette lighter at the location it is at. When you open the tray and want to use it to charge anything, it slides open on top of the cup-holders (right below). So now you can NOT use anything to hold drinks in the front area! I know someone might say use the center console charging ports...here is the problem with that...if you want to charge and use it at the same time, the console lid can NOT be closed...why put a charger port where you have to 'hide' the device inside the center console while it is charging...otherwise the console cover will not close!!

I called MB support and shared the feedback on usability. I am not sure if it ever gets to the engineering/design folks...Overall S class is a comfy vehicle. People want to use the car as well and simple things are ignored...

First problem should have addressed by now. And I feel for you. Unacceptable!

But the second, I much prefer the charges in the center console with my phone.
Should not be using your phone when driving. That shl!T pesses me off.

I'm trying to figure out of this is a trolling thread.

It's quite a coincidence a new member posts a Mercedes ranting thread the very day the LS is released.

I also think it's funny it's saying the overall quality of the car is disappointing based on 1) an issue the apparently crappy dealer clearly didn't fix the first few times around and 2) an ergonomic quirk.

Talk about an overdramatic and somewhat misleading post.

Well, certainly NO Trolling intent...stopped leasing Lexus long time ago...certainly E (sedan and convertible) and SL class was a damn reliable car for me...others were mostly fine..

Yes, I only posted 2 of the issues...other stuff...
1. Driver seat noisy, makes loose table hinge crackling noise...dealer tried fixing 3 times, said it was seat belt...still didn't go away...my business client sitting right behind me joked, be careful, it might come off the hinge... and hit him...
2. Re the Air-vent, YES it is annoying and time-wasting when you are going for a business meeting and stuff is hanging/dragging underneath the car and have to apologize to client coming from overseas to make a business deal...time is money sometime...right???
3. Re the USB charging port in center console...OK if they design a little indentation so one can get the charging wire out if needed while closing the console cover.
4. Certainly location of cigarette lighter is 'bad design' if you pull the tray out to use it as charger, can NOT use the drink holders...now please don't tell me shouldn't drink (soft drinks) while driving...I was told German version has additional port in the 'front' passenger area...
5. Drink holders can NOT hold a tall drink...on turns (and yes, NOT making wild turns) cup pops out of the holder...
6. Repeated 'check-engine' light ON...can not tell anything further...should I drive? 2 times, it turned out to be a catalytic converter...service said oh you can drive...I am not mechanic, couldn't they put bit more into type of messages...than just check engine symbol...
7. Have you seen how CHEAP is that plastic/cardboard or whatever it is the material that covers the underneath of the car...in rain, that stuff 'swells' and starts popping out...service said, just kick it back into position...Really?

All I am saying is you get a $100,000 car for reliability/comfort...NOT saying no machine can breakdown...but when service shop starts saying, hello again and again...now what happened...you start whining...Right?

I run a LARGE IT shop...we have to make hardware/software 'user friendly/easy to navigate'...I feel overall MB engineers are disconnected from American Users' driving habits and their overall usage of the care compared to European drivers...my 2 cents! They loose focus on user friendliness of their cars..

I can't wait for my lease to end and get the 2018 GL550...

Although I'm absolutely loving my W222 I have to agree with the design issue raised of
the 12V tray opening on top of the drink holders. However with a normal thickness USB cable I can just about close the armrest without crushing the cable if I want my phone outside and charging, which is rare when I need to use the phone when stopped. As a hotspot it works well enough inside the storage compartment.
