I guess it is a nice promotion for Nintendo, and they probably want a far bit of coin for this too. Nintendo is in a bit of financial strife at the moment.

I know more about Nintendo than BMW
That's what makes me so surprised, they tend to be very conservative with these kind of things, as it could backfire.

And Nintendo has a war chest filled with many billions of dollars, combined with some of the strongest IPs in the world, not just their industry. This movie is completely insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
