2014 GL 450
2014 Range Rover Sport.

Opinions?

Note: Driven both already.

GL:
-Loves the GL's room.
-Loves capability
-Comfy for outtings with family and more.
-The space in the back is crazy.

Range Rover:

-Loves the technology
-Quality is a grade above and beyond
-Comfortable - seats hug you
-Hates the reliability of the Range Rovers of yore.

Originally, he had his sights set on the diesel because he drives an hour to and from work - drove a Cayenne Diesel, GL 350 and didn't like the clatter, even though they were very fuel efficient.

Reliability might be an issue with the RR...
I'm not sure... a really tough choice, indeed!
If he changes cars every two years then reliability might not be that big of an issue!
Short term - I'd go with the RR!
Long term - GL!

Pardon my ignorance (because leasing is not really popular here and all my car buying experiences involve just cash and the exhange of a car key between two sets of hands), but aren't all service and maintenance costs included in the monthly lease payment?

If yes, and given that you don't really own the car, just lease it for a few years, why should reliability be that important?

I can understand it for someone that buys a car willing to keep it until it melts, but when just leasing it?

:)

Oh yes that depends on whether it's leased or not... tho it's different in every country.
Reliability isn't a big issue during warranty period but you still don't want your car to spend much time at the service while you actually pay to drive it :)
In a short period of time there's a big chance that less major issues would appear.

Range Rover, unless your father has or is expecting grandchildren and needs the space than the Mercedes is the one!!;)

It seems it liked the space in the GL, but he says it's too big to drive day to day....so it seems now it's the RR Sport Supercharged or Cayenne?

Personally for me know between the RR and the Cayenne, i would go with the Cayenne because nothing beats a Porsche in my opinion..

Though I don't think the twin turbo diesel is offered Stateside in the RR Sport but if it were you'd be surprised just how much more refined it sounds compared to it's rivals, I've ordered with that engine in mine and it's quite a difference to the Cayenne D I've got rid of.

To me there's little comparison comfort and quality wise, the RR Sport feels that much better than the rest but if space is really important then the GL would be my next choice even though not a fan of it's styling either inside or out.

If the Range Rover is anything to go buy, the build quality is nothing to write home about.

If you are referring to the latest version not being exceptional then you need to stop smoking that sh1t because it's seriously compromising your reasoning. lol

Yes I am. And yes I was not impressed. Things shouldn't feel hollow. Door handles shouldn't creek when you pull doors closed etc. Not in a car costing AUD$150K +.

^Cant say I noticed any of that on the ones I've driven, all of which had had a tough brief life covering five times the normal mileage at the hands of every Tom, Dick and Harry giving them a much harder time than any actual owner would.

Both the RR and RR Sport were rattle free and as quiet as a mouse.

Each market is different so no point telling you UK discounts. BTW your choice isn't dissimilar to mine apart from the engine as I've ordered the sound pack and is Black too though mine has the blue sparkle in it.

I say go for it.
