For those unfamiliar with the model, Hyundai's i20 has been on sale in Europe since 2007 as a supermini, essentially a direct rival to the Ford Fiesta hatchback and based around the same platform as the American Accent sedan. A new generation has been under development for quite some time now and it seems Hyundai is about to reveal it. An undisguised production version of the 2014 i20 was just spotted two days ago in India and we have pictures to prove it.

A forum member of website Team BHP took these three clear shots of the new i20 from all angles. Essentially, it's a much better looking car than the current model, with a wide grille giving it sporty looks. At the back, wrap-around taillights and a sculpted bumper give an impression similar to the Kia pro_cee'd, which is no coincidence. A team led by designer Peter Schreyer was involved in the development of both these cars. The only thing we don't like about the new i20 are the blacked out C-pilars, which give off a fake sporty look.

So why is the i20 testing in India? Well, the smaller i10 was also developed there and it seems Hyundai is aggressively targeting this emerging market with cars tailored to local needs.

While the platform is likely to be all-new and lighter, the engine choices are likely going to carry over from the previous generation, with improvements in fuel economy and lower emissions, of course.Petrol engines should include the 1.2 Kappa and 1.4-liter engines, both mated to a 5-speed manual. The more powerful of the two will continue to be offered as an automatic. Depending on the market, diesels options will include a 1.1 three-cylinder and a 1.4-liter.

We expect the all-new Hyundai i20 to debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in early October. The hatchback has already been confirmed as one of the candidates of the Car of the Year Awards and as such should go on sale by the end of 2014.

Apart from being horrible, they again copied Giulietta's stoplights (like on i30) and the front seems inspired on the Peugeot 208. Hyundai is taking a lot of inspiration from the french this days, the new i10 has a lot of Clio IV and the Genesis, of Pug 508.

2015 Hyundai i20 specifications leaked, shorter than current model

A report from Gaadi.com claims to reveal the technical specifications of the new 2015 Hyundai Elite i20. Here are the reported dimensions of the new hatchback.

The width of the new i20 will increase by 24 mm, in a bid to offer more shoulder room for rear passengers. For reference, the current i20 measures 1,710 mm in width. Also increasing comfort levels will be the wheelbase of the car, which is reported to increase by 45 mm from the current model’s 2,525 mm. However, the overall length of the Elite i20 will be 10 mm shorter than the outgoing model. Where the current model measures 3,995 mm in length, the Elite i20 will measure only 3,985 mm.

The height, at 1,505 mm, will continue unchanged. However, the ground clearance of the car would be 169 mm, which is 4 mm more than the current model. The boot volume will see no changes.

On the top-end trim of the car, Hyundai would offer 16-inch alloy wheels with tyre specifications of 195/55 R16. And speaking of variants, the five model lineup (Era, Magna, Sportz Asta and an option pack) would continue to be offered.

The engine options, as mentioned before, will carry on unchanged. However, the 1.4-liter petrol would get a manual transmission instead of the 4-speed automatic which is currently seen. The new i20 launches in India on August 11.

2015 Hyundai i20 WRC teased

Features a new engine & transmission
Hyundai has begun testing their new i20 WRC.

Based on the 2015 i20, the rally car is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor. The model also features a new engine and transmission.

Hyundai was coy on specifications but said the car "incorporates all the learning and valuable feedback that the team has collected during its first season in the World Rally Championship."

Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal Michel Nandan added "The data and experience that we have accumulated during our debut WRC season has contributed to our approach with this new car. We will introduce it in competition when we are absolutely sure that it is ready to replace the current Hyundai i20 WRC – we’re not in a rush."
