2014 Audi Urban (VW up! based)

They will soon. Cough cough UKL Platform Cough Cough

No.
These cars will have unique designs. If you are American then you have an excuse but these VW Group cars differ in front design and what brand is on the front. Everything else is exactly the same.

Its the same car with a different body. Basically you will be charged at least 10K more for a BMW design, slightly better interior materials, and worse... sorry more refined driving dynamics. What BMW is doing is only slightly better than badge engineering.

Unlike the Mini this car and it's copies are generic in it's design and as such it lends itself to re-badging with minor tweaks, with the Mini even quite major tweaks and a BMW badge would still be recognizable as a Mini. In a way BMW have shot themselves in the foot and cost themselves a packet.

I see no problem with rebadging this into an Audi. Everybody knows it is just a "VAG". I wouldn't be surpised to see this rebadged into a Porsche and use top quality materials, just in the same way as Aston Martin rebadged Toyota IQ. It is not really a car but more a road accessoir with badges of "your" favorite brand, just as you have Audi or Porsche bicycles.

BMW have the 640d which exactly the same power as the 535d. The only motivation for calling the 6 Series twin-turbo diesel "x40d" and not "x35d" is for the percieved added value of the 6 Series and to justify the huge price increase.

Don't you talk about "badge engineering" when that's EXACTLY what BMW do there.

Then in the US there is the 328d, X5 35d, and 535d which are actually a 320d, a X5 30d, and a 530d respectively.

Why? If Audi is to shake off the VW stigma they need to this. Clearly this is a re-badged VW just for the sake of doing so.

^Have you ever heard of that rare idea called maximising profit. lol

The US might not have reached the point where small is where the sales are but Europe and Asia have and such a car like this will be a very big seller if built.

Then sell it as a VW, the money is going to the same company. This is nothing more than a re-badge VW and I thought Audi was past that.

We don't know that it isn't more than a rebadged VW.

The idea that an A3 is just a rebadged Golf is wrong, and this might be more than that too.

Its a rare thing for me to disagree with you Betty, but I do here. Clearly every body panel is the same if that first pic the real deal. They didn't change much if anything to make it an "Audi".

Are you telling me that photo in the first post is an official photo?

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
