2013 Mercedes-Benz SL: Spy Pics & Info

I am surprisingly underwhelmed, certainly for a new-SL release, although the release of the body-in-while a couple of weeks back may be responsible (it solved a big question mark regarding the rear hind quarters). Nothing is proprietary to the SL. As someone said, largely an SLS copy-and-paste job. In the dash, they did not necessarily do a good job, on first look. I really like the seat detail, however, and can only imagine how the AMG interior will look. I look for the exterior (along with the interior) to grow on me. I recall in September 2001 to have had a similar reaction to the then-debuting R230, where I thought the design was too soft, but ended up being the best designed car in my eyes for a long time. In this regard the 231 stands no chance of wowing, as it stands of the high shoulders of the R230 and does not change direction, save for the grille. I look forward to more detailed pictures, and in different colors. Let the leaking begin! Also, I look forward to Detroit.

That may be so as I think they're making better looking cars than the previous generation of cars, but you I think even you can see Mercedes' are just not the smooth, clean design that they used to be. They aren't ugly, but they're not timeless anymore either. Either way I'll just await to see the SL in person next month.

The black and white ones are from some dude that is sitting on the brochure.
I do not think these guys have the official shots..

Just BRILLIANT. Graceful, clean and bold at the same time. Those headlights have such gravitas! I thought they were going to be a disaster.

Now I'm not sold on the interior. It doesn't look bespoke enough. I need to see more pictures.

Great shot, thanks for posting the add. i`m looking at those eyebrow LEDs and thay do look a little busy in color. Other than that I think it`s a marvelous, classy design with a little retro twist.
Yes, I believe it will withstand the test of time, even better than the current one.

I was reading a rumer about the AMG version about a week ago. Rumer has it, AMG is planning to use more aluminum in the structure to make it`s version about 150-200lbs lighter than the normal SL.
I believe thay are aiming for a weight figure of 3650lbs (1655kg) if I`m not mistaken. If this is the case it`s going to be really damn fast and perform very well!

OMG! I hoped it would look so much better. It looks so overdone and without harmony. They tried to hard to make it look classy and sporty and IMO completely failed. Interior is just somthing else similar to SLS and SLK, really nothing new like say the CLS. For now only the CLS is the only good looking Mercedes IMO. The best looking Mercedes of all time is the previous pre facelift SL. My dream Mercedes.

Well, these pics are very bad and surely do not do it any justice. I'll have to see it live, or at least HD pics to give my personal conclusion.

For me it`s definitely much beautiful the new SL`s front than SLS AMG one. This car is a total HOTTIE just like a SL must be ! If I can personificate SL with a human that would be a sex-symbol from the `60s, perhaps Brigitte Bardot. SL is that kind of beauty.
