2013 Mazda CX-9 World Premiere at Australian International Motor Show

- Incorporating elements of KODO design with Mazda's new family face -

HIROSHIMA, Japan-Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the refreshed Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show.

Held in Sydney, the 2012 Australian International Motor Show begins October 18 and runs through to October 28, 2012. The 2013 CX-9 will be launched in Australia later this year.

Mazda CX-9 is a crossover sport-utility SUV featuring a distinctive sporty appearance, a high-quality cabin, the flexibility of three-rows, and Mazda's exciting "Zoom-Zoom" driving dynamics. The current CX-9 has sold over 210,000 units* in 74 countries, including North America and Australia, as Mazda's range-topping SUV.

The 2013 Mazda CX-9 carries over the utility and dynamic driving performance of the current model while adopting Mazda's "KODO - Soul of Motion" design theme at the front and rear for even sportier styling and stronger presence. Enhancements in craftsmanship and interior design further the feeling of quality and refinement. With regard to equipment, the infotainment system features the latest audio, navigation and speech-recognition systems based on the Human Machine Interface (HMI) which is intuitive to use. In addition, advanced active-safety features, such as Forward Obstruction Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, and High Beam Control System, help drivers recognize and avoid danger.

As with the current model, the 2013 CX-9 features the MZI 3.7-liter V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission for powerful and refined driving pleasure.

The all-new Mazda6 (known as Atenza in Japan) will also make its Australian premiere in Sydney. It is the second of Mazda's new generation of products that adopt the full range of SKYACTIV technologies and the KODO - Soul of Motion design theme. It is the first model to be equipped with Mazda's unique brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will open to the press on October 18, and to the public from October 19 to 28, 2012. Mazda will hold its press conference on the morning of Thursday, October 18 from 9:12 to 9:22 local time.

Looks good, probably the best application of Mazda's new front end design theme. For whatever reason the CX-9 is really popular over here, it is the most common car I see on the road.

The 2017 Mazda CX-9 has been spied undergoing testing in southern California.

Dressed in black and white camouflage, the redesigned crossover follows in the footsteps of the CX-3 and CX-5 as it adopts a stylish KODO design with a prominent grille which is flanked by slender headlights. Moving further back, we can see flowing bodywork, a sloping roof and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. Other notable styling cues include a dual exhaust system and small taillights.

Specifications remain unconfirmed but speculation suggests the model will be powered by a new turbocharged 2.5-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder engine. The engine is also slated to be used in several MazdaSpeed variants including the MazdaSpeed6.

While nothing is official, the model could be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show before going on sale early next year.

Looks to be one of my favorite non-luxury crossover. The only quibble is that front overhang. Curious to see how a turbo Skyactiv does, especially as the Skyactive engines already use a high compression-ratio.

Mazda CX-9 teaser

Our friend Remco Meulendijk from RM Design has presented his vision for the upcoming Mazda CX-9.

The Japanese company is about to launch its range-topping crossover later this month during the Los Angeles Auto Show and the time seems to be perfect for a rendering, previewing the final product. What we’ve got here is a pretty detailed virtual drawing of the model, clearly inspired by the Koeru concept revealed in Frankfurt earlier this year, while we also noticed cues from the Mazda6 station wagon, especially at the back. Compared to the study, the production CX-9 is expected to be slightly longer and taller, judging by spy photos. Everything seems just about right with this rendering, except for the oversized wheels that appear to be too big for a production model.

Utilizing the latest generation of the KODO design language, the CX-9 will sit at the top of Mazda’s SUV range and will benefit from all the SKYACTIV technologies of the company. Chances are it will receive a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, sending around 300 PS (221 kW) to all four wheels. The thirsty 3.7-liter V6 naturally aspirated engine of the predecessor will remain a history.

All the juicy details will be revealed on November 17 during the first press day of the LA show.
