Mosley drops legal action, seeks talks with breakaway teams

On a day when Sky Italia took a poll during their broadcast of the British Grand Prix which found an astonishing 91 percent of viewers supported the Formula One Teams' Association stance, Max Mosley said the FIA will not proceed with legal action against the FOTA members, indicating he would rather reach a deal to stave off the threat of a breakaway championship.

"There won't be any writ. I think we would rather talk than litigate," the President of the Paris-based body said before walking the Silverstone grid.

Mosley, who in an earlier interview this weekend dismissed the FOTA figureheads like ‘the Bernie’ Flavio Briatore as ‘loonies’, claims there is actually very little the teams and the FIA is arguing about.

He invited the disgruntled rebel teams to "sit down and iron out the last few difficulties."

"It's definitely getting better - but these things take time," he explained. "The problem is we have eight teams and some want to sit down, some don't.
No doubt, eventually they all will."

He agrees with Martin Whitmarsh that time is a factor, after the McLaren boss said preparations for the breakaway will be too far advanced by the end of July.

"If this goes on for any length of time, it damages the teams. It doesn't affect the FIA, it damages the teams because it affects their sponsors," said Mosley.

Bernie Ecclestone said he was pleased to hear about Mosley's comments.

"If Max says (a deal) is close, then that's good," the F1 Chief Executive said.

Now tha the series has been announced... I don't want to hear anything about compromissing...

I want to see F1 die, or at least I want the 2 clowns, Max and Bernie, out of the picture. Else, I won't bother watching again.

That's what it will for be to become an F1 fan again: No Max and Bernie

that racing schedules purpose is possibly just to put pressure on bernie and max. after listening to several statements from certain team chefs, at least to me, it sounds as if a breakaway series is a simple illusion to make everyone scared. :eusa_thin

Briatore: Time for deal has passed

Renault boss Flavio Briatore believes the time for teams doing a deal with the FIA over future rules has now passed.

With members of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) scheduled to get together later this week to discuss the next step in their plans for a breakaway series, Briatore is adamant that the only thing on their mind is getting the new championship ready.

"We have tried to compromise, we have opened the door, we have tried everything," he said. "We have had the door closed in our face. The agreement has not been done by FOTA; it has been done by the manufacturers. All the ACEA people.

"Maybe the people aren't doing business, like somebody said, but the ACEA people are very firm, and this is their position, as simple as that."

FOTA is expected to get together on Thursday, the day after the FIA's World Motor Sport Council meets - and when potentially news about whether or not Max Mosley will stand for re-election in October could be made public.

Although confirmation that Mosley will see through with his plan to step down has been viewed by some members of FOTA as vital if they are going to consider progressing with a deal with the FIA, Briatore says that the outcome on Wednesday will not sway the body's position.

"I don't know. I've no idea," he said when asked if what happens on Wednesday would change anything regarding the breakaway. "I don't think the World Council will change anything regarding the FOTA teams."

Briatore has also expressed his disappointment over Mosley's comments about him at the weekend - where he was accused to trying to become the new Bernie Ecclestone.

"Max is going personal all the time," said Briatore. "I'm too much of a gentleman to go personal. If he wants to go personal, I have a lot to say about Max. I know. He needs to stop insulting people."

When asked about comments from Mosley that he was a 'loony' Briatore responded: "I don't want to personally describe what Max is because in his private life we have already had a demonstration of what he was in the News of the World.

"If he is talking about lunatics and stuff like that, he needs to watch himself, to just do the best job possible for him, the teams and not go personal, insulting me, the people from FOTA, the people from ACEA.

"It's enough. If there is somebody who needs to be very quiet in their personal life, it's him because for sure he is not a [good] example, to be president with what he has in his personal life.

"He needs to stop making it personal all the time."

And Briatore has also played down suggestions that he is planning on helping run the FOTA series.

"I see myself exactly like I am. I am in FOTA. I believe in FOTA - I was one of the first to believe in FOTA," he said. "I believe FOTA is strong, we want a championship with the best teams in the world, the best drivers in the world, and want the people in F1 who have the knowledge of being in F1, not GP3 or GP4.

"We want real teams, not empty boxes. We are very curious because Friday was the deadline to announce the teams for the FIA 2010 championship.

"It was very hard for us to really be ready for Friday. This was supposed to be the day for the list of the new teams in Formula 1. I don't see this list. I am very curious to see this list.
"

The bold part is pure gold. :D because of the attack on mosley of course but also because Flav is playing it the subtle way and refusing the personnal attacks while he's the number 1 specialist of that.

FIA, FOTA ward off Formula One breakaway threat

PARIS (AFP) — Formula One's world governing body the FIA and the F1 teams association FOTA agreed Wednesday there will be no parallel championship next season following talks in Paris to ward off a threatened breakaway.
The accord followed a meeting of 120 members of the FIA and came in the wake of weeks of bitter rowing between the two bodies which centred on proposed tough spending limits from next season.
Ahead of the meeting, FIA president Max Mosley had insisted that he would not step down as part of the price of any potential agreement and might seek re-election as head of world motor sport.
As a result of Wednesday's deal in Paris, Mosley says: "I will not be up for re-election now we have peace."
The 69-year-old Briton has been under pressure amid the disagreements emanating from the proposed swingeing budget cuts.
The Paris meeting was a clear-the-air opportunity for member clubs to hear from F1 teams about their plan to break away from the FIA and set up a rival series, a proposal which had led the FIA to prepare a legal claim against FOTA.
Writs against Ferrari and FOTA - which also includes McLaren, BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP - had been due to be served on Monday, but the FIA held back pending Wednesday's meeting.

FOTA teams call off breakaway series

The Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) will officially call off its plans for a rival championship tomorrow after reaching a breakthrough deal with the FIA.
Following last-ditch talks between FIA president Max Mosley, FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, an agreement was reached that commits the teams to the sport until 2012.
FOTA members had been set to press ahead with breakaway plans in the meeting in Bologna tomorrow, but following its victory in getting the FIA and Ecclestone to agree to terms that keeps its eight members in F1, it will now rubber stamp final cost-cutting regulations for 2010 and call off its breakaway instead.
The deal between the FIA and FOTA was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon, when the FIA announced that its planned budget cap for 2010 had been scrapped, and instead FOTA-proposed cost-cutting regulations will be introduced.
In a bid to help new teams, technical assistance will be offered to Campos Meta, Manor Grand Prix and Team US F1 by major outfits.
The FIA statement said: "As part of this agreement, the teams will, within two years, reduce the costs of competing in the championship to the level of the early 1990s.
"The manufacturer teams have agreed to assist the new entries for 2010 by providing technical assistance."
As part of the deal with FOTA, the teams' association has agreed to recognise the FIA's position as the sport's governing body, adding that a new Concorde Agreement has been agreed in principle to keep all of the teams in F1 to 2012 and, upon re-negotiation, it is hoped beyond.
"The manufacturer teams have further agreed to the permanent and continuing role of the FIA as the sport's governing body," added the statement. "They have also committed to the commercial arrangements for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship until 2012 and have agreed to renegotiate and extend this contract before the end of that period.
"All teams will adhere to an upgraded version of the governance provisions of the 1998 Concorde Agreement."
Furthermore, with it clear that FOTA is not trying to usurp the FIA's authority, FIA president Max Mosley has agreed to not stand for re-election in October. :eusa_pray:banana:

Max Mosley forced to quit to avert rebel series

There will be a unified Formula One championship next year after Max Mosley was forced into a humiliating climbdown as president of the FIA. His influence as head of motor sport's world governing body is effectively over from today.

Formula One was facing the prospect of financial disaster after rebel teams last week threatened to form a breakaway series.

It quickly became apparent that Fota, the teams' association, was just as determined to oust Mosley from his position as to resist the severe cost-cutting measures that he attempted to impose on the sport.

Confirming what will be seen by most as a victory for the teams, Mosley said: "I will not be up for re-election now we have peace."

With Max out... half of the problem is solved.

Bernie is still there, so its not good enough for me.

So I until then, I won't bother really. Very sad day.

It's not Bernie the problem, it's CVC and that's the real problem, more than mosley. Besides that, tbh i always liked the budget cap + technical freedom much better than the standard parts.

What technical freedom ?!
With 45 mil it's just more standardized stuff.

This crisis shows you what a bunch of liars, weaklings, and morons FOTA are.
If Bernie, Max or whomever screws them over again in the future, they fully deserve it.

It's the second time they do this stuff.

I wanted a racing series that is technologically relevant, and where the racing is not dumbed down by "racertainment" ideals.

Neither FIA, FOM or FOTA give a damn about real racing.
