Went to Palm Springs this weekend to visit the grandparents. Granpa was in the hospital for a few days pretty bad, but is doing much better.
Saturday my parents were going to go shopping to get some food, when my mom comes back in and tells me to look at my car... not good.
Some ^&^*&(^ shot out my driver's window.
So I call the dealership in PS closed on Saturdays. I call this glass shop, no window in stock, can get Monday. I call another glass shop, not today but can get in Monday... 8 times.
Monday doesn't work since I had to be back in Vegas Sunday night.
So I went to the hardware store bought a sheet of plexiglass and cut it to fit, and put some clear tape around the edges.
So how did it hold up on the 300 mile trip? Great, very little wind noise (even at 90+) and I could see out of it just fine. It even held up in the rain storm, it was raining so hard you couldn't see 100 feet in front of you.
So should I replace the other three windows to save weight?:eusa_thin

What an idea!! :D Great…but I would be a bit carefully, especially when it comes to safety. I have no idea, how the car would react in an accident with such windows…

Yeah, good idea!

Replace all windows (including windshield of course) with plexiglas, so that you'll travel in style and can label your car "green" especially if it's recycled plexiglas! For the windshield, put some RainX on it and ditch the wipers to save even more!

Furthermore you'll always recognize your car, everywhere!:usa7uh:

Safety? What does that have to do with anything.

What would happen if it was hit, it would shatter into my face:eusa_doh:

It was just the first thing that came through my mind… :t-hands: …I have absolutely no experience with all that type of material… :D

On the contrary, it would bounce the object away...:D If the object is a car, well, it would split and cut you, but just wear a Plexi-helmet and you'll even improve the safety...:D

Pics will be necessary if you do that, an E-Class with plexi-windows fixed with tape, wow, stunning. It could start a trend!! The Plexi-car...

Maybe you could make a Plexi-bonnet, to admire the motor and save weight while enhancing the custom-feeling of the car! ;)

Nice title, reminded me of the top gear special in Africa lol
Anyway... I say no because tape looks nasty and you can't even roll down your windows now

PS. Did that ^&^*&(^ take anything in your car or just shot the window?

I will be installing a new window, for several reasons. But I may have to go to the dealership to pick up the glass, really don't want to.
To be able to roll down the window
Plexiglass does not block the sun as well as glass
stronger then plexiglass, will not break as easy
will not crack as easy
looks like crap...

They did not take anything, just broke the glass.
