Article:

'TR' stands for 'testa rossa', red head in Italian. Red was the color of the valve covers on the new Ferrari four-cylinder engine introduced in 1956. The 500 TR is the origin of the classic Ferrari racing model name and is one of only 17 made. It has a 1986cc inline-4 with dual overhead cams that produce 180 horsepower at 7000 rpm.

The body is by Scaglietti.

The 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa that Pete Lovely entered into the inaugural day of races at Laguna Seca in 1957 was a well-traveled vehicle. In fact, Lovely was not the car's first driver. John von Neumann had initially driven the car, followed by Bruce Kessler, in a total of 11 races prior to Lovely's first ride at Arcata in September 1957. Lovely would ride to victory at Laguna Seca in only his second race in the car, beating von Neumann and several other more favored drivers that day.

This car is powered by a 2498cc four-cylinder engine and is capable of producing 190 horsepower at 7400 RPM.

The guy who buys this talking to his friend.
I just bought a car for 5.5 million dollars.
What kind of car did you get?
A four cylinder Ferrari!

lol that does sound kind of sad doesn't it?

I didn't quite understand its price tag until I read its racing history. I guess if you're into racing (and cars for status) you'd buy something like this.

But still..5 million dollars for one car? I'd rather have 3 or 4 Veyrons :t-crazy2:

If you can afford a car like this the Veyron pales in comparison to some of these classics.

^^
Oh that painting, it's been all over the news here. Surprisingly high price for a painting which is just a little over 10 years old.

LOL.

Actually, I don't hate the painting so much. The subject matter is not [traditionally] beautiful ...but there is something quite intriguing and monumental about it.

I really like the work of Fernando Botero ...everything he paints or sculpts is fat.

As far as art prices go, they have reached extravagant levels in recent times (same with rare contemporary design objects and antiques).

Last year this sculpture by Jeff Koons sold for $23.4 million

^ it is interesting, the whole 'art market vs. art' debate.

We currently are living in a time of "icons" ....contemporary western culture is constantly looking for instant cultural "statements" and "expressions" -- even in the auto-industry.

Jeff Koons heart sculpture is a bold [if superficial] icon -- it is cold and banal -- modeled directly from the kind of cheap throw-away heart balloon you might buy a girlfriend for Valentines day. I agree with you to a degree that the art world has become an industry -- this is something that agitates me also.

Yeah, Jeff Koons latest art pieces are selling for ridiculous sums and the same goes for Damien Hirst's crafting resulting from his diamond fetish.

^Love that car and absolutely hate the name, anyway Rob those stuff u posted are a serious insult as Victor said.I can never understand why paying so much for that piece of junk but i respect other's interest for some of mine will look garbage to them as well:D
