Lewis Hamilton was quicker than both Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher as the final pre-season group test ahead of the Australian Grand Prix took place in Barcelona.
A now familiar damp circuit greeted the ten teams in attendance but with 19 drivers on track the circuit dried as the day progressed with Hamilton setting the pace with a best lap of 1:22.276s in his McLaren Mercedes.
Defending world champion Raikkonen and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher were representing Ferrari and the duo recorded the second and third fastest times respectively, both less than two-tenths off Hamilton's pace.
Kazuke Nakajima continued his impressive pre-season programme with Williams Toyota with the fourth fastest time just ahead of Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren and team-mate Nico Rosberg in the second FW30.
Fernando Alonso continued to lead the way at Renault with the seventh fastest time, seven-tenths off Hamilton's pace, while Nelson Piquet was 14th in the second R28.
Over at BMW Sauber Nick Heidfeld was eighth fastest while new test driver Christian Klien was 12th best.
It was the first day of working with the updated VJM01 chassis for Adrian Sutil who was an impressive ninth fastest ahead of Mark Webber in the leading Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel in the sole Toro Rosso and Tonio Liuzzi who ran the older F8-VIIB Force India chassis.
