I'd be surprised if this is a twin turbo. I don't think there's enough volumetric flow from two 500cc cylinders to spool each of the two turbos up sufficiently. Remember that the twin turbo arrangement in the 335i uses one small turbo per three cylinders.

If BMW pull the sequential turbo stunt as per the 35d engines then I'll fall off my chair. Single, twin-scroll turbo is what I'd expect.

Some people just don't get it. What about the BMW E30 M3, or the 2002 turbo for that matter... two of the most impressive and iconic BMWs yet.

It would be a first for a car in this segment. In fact, I can't think of a single example of a current petrol engined car that uses a sequential turbocharging arrangement. A two-litre engine can easily make 240 PS with a single small turbocharger whilst retaining a good measure of low-rev linearity with a twin-scroll layout.

While I agree that BMW did make some wonderful 4 cylinders in the past, that was in the past. Hell their headquarters is a 4 cylinder building. But right now, it's the 6 cylinders that are the best engines in the line up... well the V8 and V10's are cool too. These are the engines that are racking up the awards, not the 4 cyl.

There's no way you can compare the engines from the 2002 and a 316i. Although this engine might prove me wrong.

I happen to own the latest 4-cylinder engine from BMW and the engine is magnficent (120i). Very fuel efficient and strong at low rpm even for N/A and the engine also like to be reeved all the way up to 7000 rpm without hesitation.
Stop living in the past Warot, there is absolutly no wrong with my car.

I knew you were going to respond, haha. While I know that the 4 cylinders are in no way bad (apart from the 1.6...), far from it, BMW's forte is the 6 cylinder. I don't think anyone car argue with that. That's what wins them countless Engine of the year awards.
