View the Post on the BlogEven true luxury needs to be facelifted from time to time, or - to use Rolls-Royce's own press release words - subtly re-designed. The end result is the Ghost II, essentially a Ghost with very few, and subtle, changes in design elements and equipment. Visual changes are limited to fresh front and a tapered ‘wake channel’ on the bonnet that is supposed to enhance the car's dynamic character. Other details include (again) subtle re-sculpting of Ghost’s bumpers, as well as the addition of chrome inserts to the front air intakes. New colours and wheel designs are also available.
Moving on inside, the seats feature a new design. The front seat passengers now offer electronically adjustable thigh supports, while the rear can be gently angled towards each other to create a more intimate setting. The instrument dials and clock have also undergone subtle enhancements. New leather and wood trim options are offered, but what caught our attention was the one-touch call button, now called the "Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller" which uses voice commands to control most of the infotainment system's options and also serves as a touch-pad. The reason, in RR's own words, is "... rather than a touch screen which might leave unsightly fingerprints at driver and passenger eye level". Talk about attention to detail!
The 6.6 litre, twin turbo V12 engine under the hood remains the same, with an output of 563bhp/420 kW at 5250 rpm and 780 Nm / 575 lb ft of torque available from just 1500 rpm, but the 8-speed automatic ZF gearbox can use GPS data so that the most appropriate gear is selected at any given moment, based on location and driving style. Finally, suspension enhancements include re-engineered front and rear struts, new steering gear and adjusted dampers that increase the car’s cornering ability when the Dynamic Driving Package is specified.
