"Zeekr 001 FR details:

We will start with some basics on the Zeekr 001 FR (FR means Future Road). Same with the standard model, it stands on the SEA (Sustainable Electric Architecture) platform from Geely. The same architecture underpins Smart #1, Jiyue 01 and other Zeekr models. However, a slightly adjusted SEA platform underpins Lotus Eletre (EPA) and Radar RD6 (M.A.P.).

Back to the Zeekr 001 FR, it stays close to the standard version in terms of exterior design. It has a distinguishing body shape that looks like a shooting brake. The front end of the Zeekr 001 FR has a sporty bumper with a large trapeze-shaped air intake and a red stripe on it. On the rear, the 001 FR has a large spoiler that increases downforce. In terms of dimensions, they are unknown. But we can suppose that they won’t change much. We will remind you that the standard Zeekr 001’s length, width, and height are 4970 mm, 1999 mm, and 1560 mm, respectively. For clarity, the 001 is 4 mm shorter, 32 mm wider and 151 mm higher than the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

Three or four electric motors?

The powertrain of the Zeekr 001 FR wasn’t detailed as well. However, Zeekr hinted that this vehicle would be quite powerful by saying “Plaid is dull” on their social media. Previously, some Chinese sources reported that it will have three electric motors on board. Keep in mind that Zeekr 001 FR is underpinned by a platform, similar to the one that underpins Lotus Eletre R+ with three electric motors. So, it is possible for the Zeekr’s liftback to have three electric motors.

Nowadays, Zeekr hinted that the 001 FR can possibly have four electric motors. They have shared its picture by saying “4个轮子是不是都能独立思考？” (Can all 4 wheels think independently?). In this case, it can have over 1,000 hp. They have also stated that we will know the answer on September 1, when the car will be officially revealed. In case the 001 FR will have four electric motors, it will become the first electric vehicle with 4 motors which is underpinned by the SEA platform.

As we have already mentioned, the starting price of the Zeekr 001 will be about 1 million yuan (137,000 USD). We will keep an eye on this car, so stay tuned!"

The 1020 hp of power of the Model S and X Plaid are among Tesla’s technological advantages over its competitors. Except that a Chinese manufacturer, Zeekr, decided that it was going to tackle these performances.

The Zeekr brand is not really known yet, but that could change quickly. It is a new brand launched within the bosom of the Chinese group Geely (Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Smart, etc.). It is the latest to tackle the electric car market and internationally. What better way to make yourself known than to attack the private domain of the undisputed leader in the sector?

Zeekr continues to increase the pressure on the Chinese media before the formalization on September 1 of the new sports version of its 001 model. But beyond the power delivered, Zeekr could be the first manufacturer to integrate 4 electric motors into a mass production model.

A 4-engine version like on Rimac’s luxury models?
A little earlier in August, the brand already published on its social networks a “Plaid is boring” (“Plaid is dull”) to announce the color. A few hours ago, on August 28, another publication on the Weibo social network revived the debate. In the form of a question, Zeekr asks “ Can 4 wheels think independently »?

If the electronics already allow the different wheels to turn at different speeds, to deliver all the traction to the most advanced models, the question raised here is different. With a big 4 in red, Zeekr might want to make it clear that it has developed a sports version on Zeekr 001 with 4 electric motors. This would allow it to easily exceed 1000 hp of power. However, Chinese rumors spoke of a more classic 3-engine configuration, like the Lotus Eletre R from the same group.

Most electric cars have a single electric motor, located either on the front or rear axle. To offer versions with all-wheel drive (4 wheel drive), manufacturers add a second motor on the vacant axle. If the manufacturer wants to develop a high-performance model, it can add a third engine. This is the case of the Model S Plaid and Model X plaid, the Lucid Air Sapphire, the Lotus Eletre R…

4 motors in the Zeekr 001 FR, that sounds like a particularly exciting innovation. Especially since the model is currently estimated at around €127,000 in China, the same price as the Model S Plaid from the Chinese Tesla configurator. Currently, this configuration is reserved for luxury hypercars like the Rimac Nevera, with powers of more than 1900 hp and stratospheric prices in the millions. So, Zeekr’s bluff or real innovation? We will have to wait until September 1 to find out. In any case, it is impossible to reproach a lack of audacity to Zeekr.

A model that could be sold in Europe

Chinese manufacturers are multiplying the models that can offer performance and technologies superior to those of the historical brands. Even Tesla is not necessarily guaranteed to keep its technological advances for long. On the other hand, few of these models will really be exported outside the Chinese market.

This is not the case with Zeekr. The brand began its conquest of Europe with its first model: the Zeekr 001 (in its normal versions). The Zeekr X should follow soon after. The first vehicles were loaded onto a freighter a few days ago.

The sale in Europe of a sports version is therefore not excluded. Even if it will be necessary to succeed in approving it to European standards, it is not impossible that this Zeekr 001 FR will come to Europe to challenge: Porsche Taycan, Audi RS e-tron GT, Lotus Eletre and Tesla Model S and X Blanket.

Vice President of Geely Group, Yang Xueliang, introduced the ZEEKR 001 FR model through his personal Weibo account as part of the build up.

"The official slogan of the promotional poster is ‘Can all four wheels think independently?’ Later, in response to a question from PS3 Paul, an automotive blogger, Yang Xueliang stated that the vehicle will be equipped with four electric motors.

Zeekr Automotive previously unveiled its ‘ultimate performance masterpiece’ and ‘million-dollar supercar,’ the Zeekr ZEEKR 001 FR, on August 10th. According to Zeekr, the ZEEKR 001 FR features an ‘extreme weight reduction’ with a full carbon fiber aerodynamic kit including front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser, spoiler, and roof.

ZEEKR 001 FR adopts lightweight high-performance forged wheels, further enhancing handling and driving stability. The officially claimed carbon-ceramic top-level brake discs are said to be comparable to the braking systems of multi-million-dollar supercars.

‘Zeekr Evolution Day’ will be held on September 1st, during which the ‘supercar-level’ Zeekr ZEEKR 001 FR will officially debut. The official slogan is ‘Instant Movement’ accompanied by the 100km/h symbol at the bottom of the poster, indicating that there will be emphasis on zero to one hundred acceleration."

To be honest I'd seen them now and again on YouTube and knew next to nothing about them! It's slowly changing but with this car, the EMEYA and the Sapphire already established it'll change hypercar performance levels of purchase forever, in terms of £ per bhp! Track performance should be good too.

Zeekr 001 FR launched with 1,247 hp, 0-100 km/h in 2.07 seconds, can perform tank turn

On September 1, Zeekr launched the Tesla Model S Plaid competitor Zeekr 001 FR. The performance car has four electric motors with a power of 1,247 HP (1,265 PS) and a top speed of 280 km/h. FR stands for Future Roads.

The acceleration 0-100 km/h is insane 2.07 seconds “if you measure it as Tesla,” company executives said during the conference. They were referring to the rolling start scenario.

If measured including the starting time, it is 2.37 seconds. Model S Plaid acceleration is 2.1 seconds.

The car can perform a tank turn (U-turn) thanks to its four independent electric motors. This feature we previously saw only on .. tanks and some crazy SUVs from BYD, never of a performance shooting brake.


According to the company, when performing the U-turn, the peak torque at the wheels will reach 10,000 Nm.

The rear motor uses carbon fiber to wrap the rotor, and the total power density is 4.4W/kg. Equipped with a carbon fiber aerodynamic kit, Zeekr claims that it can achieve a gravitational force of 1.4G.

The supercar also features a track-level braking system: AP Racing 10-piston calipers + Brembo carbon ceramic discs.

The Zeekr 001 FR is built on an 800V platform with a 100 kWh Qilin battery from CATL.

The car also has an in-built satellite phone and navigation. Geely Group – the owner of Zeekr – plans to launch 72 satellites into orbit by 2025, the first nine GeeSAT-1 we launched in June 2022.

Inside the car is a 15.4″ control screen and an 8.8″ instrument panel. All is powered by Zeekr OS 5.0. 001 FR is also equipped with NZP, Zeekr’s driver assistance software.

A bit noticed: Zeekr also launched its 800 kW fast charger called V3. It has a maximum output of 1000 V and an output current of 800 A. Mass production will start in Q4; first, V3 will operate in Q1 2024. Zeekr plans to have 450 charging stations deployed in China by 2025.

Zeekr 001 FR is Geely’s most powerful car, which is quite impressive, considering that Geely-owned Lotus launched the Eletre SUV with 905 horsepower last year.

The blind orders started today, but the price hasn’t been revealed yet. Deliveries are set to begin in late October and will be limited to 99 units/month. We will keep an eye on it."
