ITV to broadcast free practice on the web
British television viewers will be able to watch Friday practice for this year's championship live on the internet after ITV secured an exclusive deal with Formula One Management.

The British broadcaster, owners of Formula One's television rights in Britain, has announced it has acquired the UK online rights for its website ITV.com to stream Friday practice sessions online beginning with this weekend's Australian Grand Prix, as part of a package of TV coverage that covers all the weekend action.

Friday practice sessions are currently not broadcast on any channel in the UK.

"We know from listening to our viewers that there is great demand from motor sport fans to watch F1 practice sessions and press conferences," said Mark Sharman, ITV Director of News and Sport.

"This is yet another example of how we are using ITV's digital channels and new media platforms to extend our award winning coverage of sport to complement the big events on ITV1."

I'll be watching the race...I doubt I'll have time to watch anything else.

Having said that, Ecclestone is a complete jackass. Good job on alienating your fans in North America, Bernie!

For the past 5 years, I've been attending a launch party hosted by a motorsports paraphenalia shop (Toronto Motorsports). We have the party in a restaurant, where we can watch the race, while eating & drinking.

It used to work out quite well for the Australian race, as it used to start at 11pmEDT. Now, the bloody race won't start until 12:30amEDT. Still not awful (here, in Ontario, we have a useless law that stops alcohol sales at 2am), but it'll get worse if his silly idea of a night race is realized. :t-banghea

Who would have have thought that demand for watching a boring and irrelevant practice 5AM in the morning would be big.:t-crazy2:

Thank you very much Benrie, we love you too.:bangin:

Well Bernie have done a great thing, he obliged every channel that wants to transmit gp to also transmit qualis.

I hear you, HS.

It definitely sucks to loose moments like that. I'm doing more or less the same with my 2 best friends, for years already. We're always either going to the bar, drinking beer, eat something of course, have fun and watch the game, or we're at my or theirs place, doing bbq, drinking, take our TV out in yard and watch the race.

I know i'll practice that more years to come.:usa7uh:

:t-cheers:

Christmas has come early. All you British folks should head over to F1 | ITV Sport where the qualification will be broadcasted live for free!! Sorry for the rest of you guys living outside the UK, you will be denied access.

Ye, I noticed that earlier. There should be a way to get around that?
Yeah there are various sites and software which allow you to connect to ITV through British Proxy servers and such. I wonder how long ITV will be doing this because it's really sweet, especially for me who don't have the sports channels.

Hm, I'm not too informed on such "haxxor" stuff. So I'll just stick to what I get on tv:)
