Those Mitsubishi Canter trucks sucks pretty bad. They have two of them in dad's company and they have terrible electrical problems, specially the starter motor. Talk about japanese reliability

Incredible, the best comercial vehicle they ever had are Fiat Fiorino, completely faultless, something they can't said about the VW Caddy and Transporter, nor Isuzus or Toyotas.

Regards!

PS. Mercedes may be pondering a pickup again, according to media reports. Might be for Latin America and would be offered by Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Dear Wolf, I've read in many south American auto blogs about Mercedes willing to make a pickup for our markets. Even to the point to claim that the MB Argentina bought many of the other brands mid size pickups, to study them in detail.

Any idea?

Gian, yes, seems MB has been working on this project for quite some time. It doesn't have the green light from management just yet. Suspect Daimler evaluated several alternatives and now may prefer to share a platform with partner Renault-Nissan mid-size pickups produced in Spain or South America. RAM fever may be the inspiration? The plan is to not offer it through Mercedes-Benz Cars, but as lower cost commercial pickup through Mercedes-Benz Vans, like the Vito and Sprinter. It's supposed to be ready as early as 2017 or 2018 if the latest rumors can be trusted. :)

Well, Autoblog Argentina was one of those sources where I read it :D
As Renault is going to make its own version of the Navara/Frontier, I guess MB will use that platform, too.

OT here, apologises in advance.

But the artist of this rendering Mark Stehrenberger did a speculative rendering of the Mercedes C112 Supercar way back in around 1992 for Car & Driver or Road & Track and it was an AWESOME rendering. I'd be grateful if someone could find it for me.

Here are some renders, although not sure they are from Mark Stehrenberger. :)

Get ready for the Mercedes-Benz among pickups: Mercedes-Benz Vans to launch midsize pickup
  • Expansion of product range for sustained global growth
  • Market for midsize pickups primed for first model from a premium manufacturer
  • Mercedes-Benz to enter the high-volume midsize segment before end of decade
  • Main markets: Latin America, South Africa, Australia, and Europe
Stuttgart – Before the end of the decade, Mercedes-Benz will expand its product range into a promising segment by launching the first pickup from a premium manufacturer. Thanks to their versatility, all-round utility, and payload of about one metric ton, pickups are popular across the world and thus have good sales potential.

“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets,” says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division. “We will enter this segment with our distinctive brand identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are typical of the brand with regard to safety, comfort, powertrains, and value.”

Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, adds: “As part of our ‘Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global’ strategy, the pickup is the ideal vehicle for the international expansion of our product range with a newly developed model.”

A promising segment with global scope

The midsize pickup segment is currently undergoing a transformation worldwide. More and more pickups are being used for private purposes, and commercial as well as private users are increasingly asking for vehicles that have car-like specificiations. Mercedes-Benz is the first premium manufacturer to respond to this market shift by developing its own pickup. A similar example was the successful introduction of the M-Class around 20 years ago. As the first sport utility vehicle (SUV) from a premium manufacturer, the M-Class completely redefined the segment.

The new Mercedes-Benz pickup will initially be targeted at markets in Latin America, South Africa, Australia, and Europe, all of which are posting sustained growth in this segment.

Mercedes-Benz Vans: Center of competence for commercially and privately used vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz Vans division is responsible for the new vehicle. With its many years of experience in developing, manufacturing, and marketing vehicles that are used commercially as well as privately, Mercedes-Benz Vans is ideally suited to enter the midsize pickup segment and launch a Mercedes-Benz pickup on the market for the first time in the company’s history. Current models such as the V-Class and the Vito demonstrate that Mercedes-Benz Vans has the high level of expertise to successfully serve customers from a wide variety of private and commercial sectors.

“We can perfectly serve customers looking for a vehicle that offers a high level of utility and at the same time has the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car,” says Mornhinweg. “We will design our brand’s first pickup according to this recipe for success.”

MERCEDES-BENZ PICK-UP "X-CLASS" TO ARRIVE IN 2017

For the IAA 2017 Mercedes-Benz plans - at least according to current rumors - the world premiere of its pickup. Its render has already been shown in 2015 for the first time. Nissan cooperates, but it has its own MB design.

1.2 ton payload, 3.5 ton towing capacity

The "X-class" by Mercedes-Benz will have a Mercedes diesel engine with approximately 258 hp and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. In addition to low range and differential locks, it comes with a trailer load rating of around 3.5 tons, and a payload of around 1.2 tons.

Vehicle architecture of the new Nissan NP300

The vehicle itself will be based on the vehicle architecture of the new Nissan NP300, while the design will come from Mercedes-Benz as officially confirmed in at a press conference in 2015. The pickup is to have all of Mercedes-Benz brand attributes and defining characteristics.

Quad Cab

The vehicle with double cab is designed to appeal to private customers and commercial customers alike, with the primary target markets being Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America. For Latin America, the Mercedes-Benz pickup from Nissan will be produced in the Renault plant in Cordoba, Argentina - together with the Nissan NP300 and the Renault midsize pickup. The three pickups are manufactured at Nissan's plant in Barcelona, Spain, for other markets.

The vehicle with ladder frame should thus already be celebrating its market launch around November 2017.

MB should make a 6x6 version of their upcoming pickup. With Designo Maybach interior.

^^if they want to they will make that interior which will look better than the boring and bland 7er interior
