Autobahn Newbie
Being active on many other forums in North America, I tend to get a lot of flak for my love of European ( Especially German ) vehicles. People constantly attack my posts with blurbs about unreliability, sometimes poor build quality, poor electronics, you name it..they (Americans mostly) have experienced or know a "buddy" who has had nothing but trouble with their ride. It gets old really fast. I don't usually get into flame wars with anyone, but I do always respond with the same answer and thought I would share it here too. I have 2 core reasons why I buy German cars. The first is that I am of German descent, so it is a cultural pride thing on top of the fact that I just like their products better. The second and most valid reason I have is safety. I don't care what any study or report says, European cars are the safest in the world. Period. I deal with total loss vehicles for a living and see every day destroyed and mangled cars. I also have had personal experience. 3 years ago, I hit a full grown cow moose at 110KM/hr in my BMW 1 series coupe. Now that's a small car compared to a full grown moose. The car was a total loss, however I walked away from that crash with only a seatbelt burn because the windshield post didn't collapse which stopped the moose from coming into the car and crushing me. Like I stated earlier, I see things like this every day. (Toyota Camry where a moose has killed everyone inside cause it collapses the roof or shears it right off like a tuna can). I have owned several American cars and currently own a Subaru Outback for work. All have their good and bad, but I am alive today only because my little Bimmer held up so well. I am not saying that the other brands are unsafe, I just speak from what I experienced and see on a daily basis. Once I respond with that answer, most people who are not trolls shut right up.
