Saab Why did Saab have to die?

Saab Automobile AB was a car manufacturer founded in Sweden in 1945 when its parent company, Saab AB, began a project to design a small automobile. The first production model, the Saab 92, launched in 1949. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2011 and production stopped in 2014.
I think of their checkered history and what led to their downfall, every time I see one on the road, and yes I tii, think they could have potentially made the best of this recent EV trend, if only things had worked out better for them

Let's not forget that GM did modernize the range in 1993 with the NG 900 and the 9-5 in 1997 and from 1995 to 2002, Saab was quite profitable to GM.

Saab's troubles started when the market demanded an SUV and GM decided a simple badge engineering would do...

... It didn't.

If BMW, a "family" company, had not had a lot of cash flow for doing things right for decades and continued to take risks with SUVs and other models criticized in function and form, they could perfectly be in this same situation, especially with the complete pass. towards EV's, but old timers still want them to make "only" E30's today.....

Not triplets, quadruplets, the Fiat Croma was also one of these cars. It was called the Tipo Quattro Platform. The Alfa was the odd man out the other three shared a lot more components i.e. doors, glass, wheelbase, the Alfa only shared the chassis, it didn't share any body panels or glass with the other cars.

My favourite version was the Lancia 8.32 with the Ferrari V8 engine and pop up boot spoiler.

Amazing video, as always by Cammisa!

Same, we had the Saab 9000 CS about 28 years ago, what a car it was. Fast, spacious, practical, but horribly unreliable.

Speaking of which I still see a silver 9000 Aero cruising around the neighbourhood. Suspect it is kept by one owner since new.

Watch the video, it's great. He talks about the Fiat as well, such cool cars.

The 9000 was what my father wanted at that time. I remember a family friend had one, and to me, a yound lad at the time, felt like a space-ship compared to the generic french hatchbacks, my non-car-person father had at the time.

And, there's one in the neighborhood of my office. Driven by an older gentleman, and in quite a good state (the car, and the gentleman).

What an era to be a car fan that was. Amazing innovations even from small manufacturers. Vastly different products, with tons of quirks and features that made them, well, different.
