M5 Which would YOU buy? M5 or loaded 640i GC (same price)

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

Let me say that I have NEVER seen such WILDLY rapid depreciation.

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I've said it all along, the 6 Series, in all forms, is massively over priced, especially when you look at what most people regard as its competition, i.e. the A7 and CLS, NOT the Panamera, and the used market is the best barometer for proving this.

I'm actually kinda salivating at the thought of what a 640/650i will be in a year and a half when my Lease is up.... probably not much more than the residual placed on my car! Will make options as to what I plan to do all the more difficult.

It's the same in the UK. Just looking at the BMW UK used website, and cars with 1,500-3,000 miles on the clock are up for £44,000-£48,000. That's around £20,000 off list price!!

It makes the choice between a new 330d specced up to the levels of what comes standard on a 640d M Sport, or a hardly used 640d M Sport with 1,500 miles on the clock, extremely difficult indeed.

In Sweden all expensive models drop a lot of money. And that goes for Audi/bmw/MB. Its all natural. Take the new CLS for example. Cardealers have lowered the price two times, sometimes three times becuase it aint selling. They have some fantasy prices they hope to fool somebody with.

Just look at all these red prices LOL

EDIT: link aint working...

That's nuts. I haven't even searched the whole country, but in a close vicinity to *just where I live*, I found a 650 Vert with 12K miles for a $69K asking price. That must be about $30K off of MSRP on a model that's still within its own model year. Insane!

Quite right, the more expensive the car the more it drops. Though in some cases the cars in question have retails which appear to be inflated beyond the sum of their parts which leads to huge drops. Very painful for those loyal first time buyers.

They can well afford it I hear you say, true but should they have to?

F430 are still not affordable, and you can't find any R8 V8 with around 5K km for about 50K €. Price drops only on cars like luxury sedans (7 Series, A8,...) and luxury coupés/convertibles (6 Series, SL,...).

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
