This is a no-brainer: the 3er is BMW's most important car, and it's also one of its most famous and popular.

Also voted for the 3 - series because with the current models, I feel that with the new designs, especially the 335i Coupe, BMW is getting back on top of the heap in the looks area. I know that is very superficial but that's a big deal to the masses who buy cars.

i'd say right now the ///MZ4 coupe, almighty straight six, perfect handling, long bonnet, sexy design, minialist interior, and the choiceof a 6 speed manual.
this is as pure BMW as possible without going overboard as in the CSL cases.
it is still a relatively attainable car, cheapo for what it gives, and provides all creature comforts one expects without effecting the driving caracteristics
as such, the ///MZ4 coupe offers a very much rounded package that if in full compliance with BMW philosophy

all other things being equal, the coming M3 will also comply with all i stated above.
remember, the epitome of what embodies BMW"ness" must be a real great package but must also be something we can all aspire too.
i would love to get my hands on a coming M6 CSL, but chances are i would hit 6 feet under before i can, which is true of a huge percentage of the motoring masses
for now i would say specifically the Z4 coupe (in M iteration)

the 3er also is just as BMW, but its ubiquity, and its broad range of engines, and the fact that is becoming more and more upmarket means that it has lost a bit of "special" edge that it used to enjoy in previous iterations, without losing any particular attractiveness

if we want to talk about specifics and not broad packages, the 7er is embodying the new BMW path most, on design and tech terms, and it seems it will be the model per se for all future showcases, and it deserves a great laudation since it is a huge risk to mess up a flagship model given all its implication on the lower mass market ranges

so to sum up
1-Z4 coupe (M)
2-7er

As for me, i voted 5er. Yes, the 3er is the best selling bimmer, but also C-klasse is the best selling MB but noone voted it..

Anyway, my point is that when it comes to BMW it comes to driving pleasure and so it comes to M, at least for me. And M=M5 :D

5er big time, followed by the three series. Its kind of interesting poll. Ultimately though it boils down to the company's values. If we look at BMW, they have always been the company that has the best in class sports sedan and mid sized sports sedan is really what BMW is about.

In essence the 5 series is the quintessential BMW where all of the companies values are presented. Driving pleasure with the practicality of a four door sedan. Thats what its always been about, in my opinion.

3er man..i love all the 3ers.. its just so BMW..
superb car from start to now

Yes but for Mercedes, the S class would be the most famous car (or the SL, I'm not sure)

And for me, M = M3. The E46 M3 in particular. It has won everything there is to win in the car industry!

It is either the 3-Series or the Motorsport models hands down, especially here in the U.S. market. BMW can't sell anything priced like various upper Mercedes but they kill everyone in the 3-Series market and the M cars the stuff of legend.
