What's with all these retro roadsters?

I have seen a lot of retro roadsters and dragsters lately - what's that all about?
It seems to be a trend. Here is a small sample of some recent examples.

2005 Ford Wedge Roadster at SEMA

2005 Volvo T6 Roadster Hot Rod Concept

2005 Ford '40 GT at SEMA

1970 Chevrolet Summer School Chevelle

2005 Chevrolet Super Stepside Custom

Dearborn Deuce Convertible

They're all because of the Americans. Even that Volvo was for SEMA, IIRC. Seriously, get a life and do some proper design work; all this is, IMHO, because they have to trade on past glories due to having nothing really innovative to offer, these days.

Then again, maybe the car makers are only offering what they think people will buy, which might make it a comment on the people of America.

Rant over.

This all started because of the PT Cruiser IIRC... and damn I hate it. The only reason these are still being created is because of Americans (Volvo is owned by Ford so...) as SV pointed it out.

Those cars were made for those days... they shouldn't come back because times have changed.

That Volvo roadster is so damn old. I can't even beleive that they are showing it now when it was on TV in 2001.

i dont know, but perhaps the market is coming back to them, truthfully i like some of them. Alot of american sports cars are going back to their classic look.... perhaps there is a connection.

The only "retro" succes stories are Porsche 911, MINIs and Ford Mustang (for now).

I would prefer they do less retro, in most cases - taking some design cues from the old cars, not taking the whole shape and various cues and just smoothing out the lines.

Some of the cars are ok, but those roadsters Roberto's got pictured are even more of a throwback than a Mustang (Chevy Chevelle and Super Stepside excepted). Mustang and the like don't look so bad, but where's the imagination and design flair?

1970 Summer School Chevelle is a post diplom work of some guy and I have to say, it looks good.

Others are just copying each other and that's stupid!
