The recent alliance between Daimler and Nissan/Renault has no doubt been the talk of town on the Internet. Because of this, and out of curiosity, I've been browsing the web and reading on various Infiniti/Nissan forums and auto blog sites the different responses to this alliance.
The results are shocking.
There seems to be a lot of HATE directed towards Mercedes.
For example, the typical response to the Daimler-Nissan/Renault merger was:
"Daimler allied themselves with Chrysler in order to rape and pillage them. They're doing the same right now with Nissan. Ghosn is a dumbass for having accepted this deal".
"MB is a joke. underpowered unrefined and underperforming engines and boring to drive cars and they are ugly to. their ugly designs will now influeence Infiniti cars. such a shame."
"There goes Infiniti quality/reliability!"
Wimmer: After reading such silly comments like these, I wish Mercedes would rape/pillage Nissan/Infiniti and dump them!
Then, when the news came out that the Infiniti G will be receiving 4-cylinder engines from Mercedes, people went nuts:
"Nissan already has 4-cylinder engines. They don't need unreliable and underperforming Mercedes 4-cylinder engines that can't even use a turbo!"
"Mercedes engines are junk and unreliable. My dad's C230 Kompressor is always in the shop."
"W T F? Infiniti has the VQ. Mercedes doesn't have the VQ. Enuff said!!"
"Nissan has always made better engines than mercedes. this is a wrong move. it should be the other way around mercedes needs nissan engines to be halfway credible."
"A 4 cylinder Infiniti G is not a luxury car. You may as well get a V6 Camry because its faster."
"All Mercedes engines are junk except the AMG V8. I would rather see that motor in the Infiniti G."
"German car reliability is straight out trash. It's a scam that they even sell."
Wimmer: Ah, the old "German cars = unreliable" argument. Since when are Mercedes engines junk or unreliable? I can name countless examples of Mercedes-Benz vehicles that have traveled millions of kilometers on the same engine and transmission. And I can't name (or have even heard) of a single Nissan (much less an Infiniti) that has managed this feat (although I am sure they're out there).
Recently, the news hit the stands that the next-generation G and M would be built on the Mercedes E-Class platform:
"Man now the infiniti m will be the most unreliable and boring car in its class! I will leave inifniti if this happens!"
"oh god infiniti will be such an unreliable brand now!"
"are they kidding me? the best handling car in its class is going to get a euro taxi platform?"
"Typical Mercedes. They will give the next generation Infiniti's an outdated platform while basing their next E class on a newly developed one. Guys, I was one of the first to say this and it has come true; Mercedes is doing the Chrysler thing all over again.."
Wimmer: Wow, the moment the word "platform sharing" is used people immediately think that car B will get the same setup as car A. A platform is a friggin platform. The suspension tuning will be the decisive factor on how your rebadged Nissan drives, Infiniti nutcases.
Is it me, or is the Internet full of friggin morons?
What's with the Mercedes hate? These guys insecure about their ovepriced and rebadged Nissan's or something?
It's pretty obvious none of these people have any idea what they're talking about. Over 90% of the comments regarding the Daimler-Nissan/Renault alliance were negative - and those few open-minded comments were pretty much ignored or criticized by the masses. Again, most of these negative comments were excerpts from various auto blog sites and especially Nissan/Infiniti forums. Strangely, the folks on Toyota/Lexus or Acura forums were more open minded about this issue than those Infiniti nutcases.
I know that many of thee people are immature and just plain stupid morons, but there were also some well-structured and argued posts that indicated a certain level of intelligence and complex thought on the posters behalf that were full of hate or some BS make-believe-fact they came up with or heard somewhere.
The funny thing was a thread on an Infiniti board about the new FX diesel. Most of the posters in that thread were proclaiming the engineering prowess of Nissan/Infiniti and "how this is a proper diesel engine" etc.
^That diesel engine is an existing Renault designed and engineered engine that is now in use in the FX diesel.^
And what's even more funny is that these same people on this board claimed that "They wouldn't touch anything Renault made."
Epic. Friggin. Stupid. Morons.
