I think this bas been the dream of many enthusiasts who loved the E46 M3 but wanted something more practical. I certainly would love to have one of these cars!!
In 2000, BMW invited a group of automotive journalists from all over the world to Munich for the presentation of the new M3. Among the production models was a prototype of the M3 Touring, created as part of a feasibility study.
Although the journalists present at the test drive almost all spoke positively about the M3 Touring, the reviews of customers already owning BMW cars were much more restrained. BMW concluded that there was no significant market for such a car. Only the coupe and convertible made it to series production.
Years later, many dreamed of owning such a car, and several projects were built. The company Petroyle went further and will release a limited series of exclusive hand-assembled cars.
All body panels of the M3 Touring are made primarily of carbon fiber, including the rear bumper, side skirts, the trunk floor, and the front fenders. The side panels will remain steel, and customers can choose a front bumper and roof made of carbon fiber.
In addition to an exact recreation of the prototype, each Petroyle M3 Touring is fully customizable to individual needs. Customers can choose the body color, interior trim materials, as well as the configuration of the engine and transmission, including the possibility of installing M-engines V8 and V10.
