What do you guys feel about the MX5?

MX5 is great fun for a small amount of money and it's enconomic.. ;)
it dosn't look that bad and I've heard the quality isn't bad either.
But all cars over 10 years have their faults..

I can see the issu about cab or not.. Cause I'm there my self, I was looking for my first car today as well, Golf Cab. but I want to save some more money for the car in my avatar..

:t-cheers: Good Luck James :D (and If you ask you're father "please", maybe you can have the 4.2 for a day or two)
:t-drive:

Cabriolets rule. Problem is, I don't know how I'll ever be able to live with a sedan or hatchback next time if I get a cabriolet as my first car.

Believe me, right now we have 3 benzes and all of them are rusty. 1997, 1999 & 2002 models. one of them the rust was visiable while others were rusty from the inner parts

Yikes. Alright, I better be more careful.

Ohh, Mazda MX-5! I always loved this car. The reason? It's hell fun! And i mean a lot of fun. Driving-wise it has quite a good handling if you don't press it, but if you want it, then you can slide it very easily. Quality-wise it's good enough, but you should better go for the second generation as it has better plastics and better design! If i were you, i would consider it a lot!

Looks like the general concensus is to get the NB model. I'll go take a look at it. It's a good idea anyway, it's easier to find a good model NB stock rather than a NA one. :usa7uh:

Together with my dad we viewed a NB MX5 1.8M. It felt more livable, with a night lamp, new more comfortable door handles, instrumentation modernised with red backlighting (NA has green), and centre console fitted with silver plastics and more airconditioning buttons.

But after all the inspection, I feel that the car feels like some buffed person who has put on some weight. Sure, he may have grown more muscles to counter the weight gain, but somehow it isn't as suave, nor as completely spiritual as the original.

After doing our sums, for NB money we could get a Mini Cooper S! And you guys would know what our choice would be... ;)

So now we're certain, it's got to be a NA 1.6M. There's less stress driving a car that's much cheaper. It also feels simpler and more lightweight, I like.

We're really close to buying one already, because the drive is just amazing. The short gear knob throws, the rev-happy engine and the go-kart like handling really is very addictive. Even as a passenger I can feel how fun it is. With the top down, it's seriously an enjoyable car.

I have approved it, my dad approves of it, my sis approves of it... Now it's just finding the right unit.

The SL is out of the question because after doing the calculations, it's simply too costly to maintain - in terms of road tax and fuel consumption. Plus, those old auto boxes tend to get cranky. I feel an MX5 suits my image better.

Here goes nothing...
