I was just looking through old Mercedes-Benz brochures and found a Canadian brochure from 1989. Although I think the body style was looking very archaic by the end of it's production which started in '71, the W107 was still a flagship model. The SLC was a coupe based on the SL, but it was a 2+2 and had a longer wheelbase. It looks odd at first, but were prized gray market cars in the USA.

Do any of the old MB enthusiasts know what changes were made to the vehicle and in particular which years were the facelifts done? I can't pinpoint the difference between the early models and the late-'80s models. The grille looks a little different and the slope of the bonnet does as well.

It's still a gorgeous car :)

I'll look into that. Maybe Christian (cawimmer) would know, he is a bit of an expert on older Mercs :usa7uh:

I've just joined http://oursl.com/ - I'll ask that question in the forum for you 450SEL 6.9

Here is some information. http://oursl.com/news/SLhistory/350SL.htm

Thanks a lot, Roberto. I too think it was a gorgeous car. The SLC was really interesting. The 14-inch increase in wheelbase looked odd at first, but I eventually became a fan. Of course, the SLC went out of production just after I was born..

Hi 450SEL 6.9, here is a link given to me by someone called "Walrus" at that other forum I mentioned.

If you scroll down the page the changes are listed there :usa7uh: .

Also another guy called Robert2 posted this

There were very few changes cosmetically. the 350/450 was more spartan until
1978.from 78 to 80 they added center armrest with wood console, velour carpet
instead of multi-loop.These changes stayed consistent to end of production. The
380 made minor changes to headrest and door handles from chrome to plastic.
The 560 added 15 inch tires and air dam,Inside they added contour seats. The
body style remained unchanged throughout the 18 years.

Thanks, Roberto. I didn't see the message you posted.

Hmm, it looks like the car stayed pretty much the same with the exception of the air dam. Somehow I think the earlier cars looked better.
