CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Channel 3 Eyewitness News has obtained the first image of what the photographer calls the "test mule" for the new mid-size sedan (NMS) that Volkwagen will produce at the new plant in Chattanooga. The image was captured by zoom lens within the past few days in Germany as the car was being loaded on to a transporter.
The car in the photograph contains a sign in the windshield that reads "VW 411 NMS." The letters NMS have been publicly referred to by Volkswagen as the code name for the new Chattanooga vehicle.
We shared a picture of the car with a corporate official with Volkwagen who told us, "Unfortunately, this is not the NMS."
"This vehicle is built on the Jetta chassis which may also include some components of a new midsize sedan (NMS) being tested."

Nope, it's not the Jetta and is most certainly the New Midsized Sedan. I personally think that it actually looks better than the recently facelifted Passat sedan ! It's nothing that will warm the heart of an automobile enthusiast as it's very generic in its' design. But it should appeal to the targetted demographic looking for an affordable larger 5 seat notchback sedan. A very meat and potatos sort of car.

Rear overhang longs kinda long. Very bland like the new Jetta, but over time as I've seen the new Jetta it doesn't look so bad. The GLI version will spice it up just right.

This new Passat replacement however I gotta see in person. Detroit is about a month away so stay tuned....

^ Yikes that resemblance is uncanny isn't it?

I hope that VW doesn't continue the same treatment of cost cutting to this new car as they have done with the Jetta. My fear is that they most certainly will...

Or actually coming to think about it, this must be the extended Jetta for the China market. But how can they do cars this bland? Well there's always going to be buyers around the world.

A sheet-covered form on Volkswagen's consumer website is all the confirmation we need – VW's long-awaited New Midsize Sedan (NMS) is on its way to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. While we don't know what the model's official name will be, we expect for it to be longer, wider, and less costly than the Euro-market Passat, and it'll be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Even though it will be exported, the NMS has been designed with the U.S. as its top priority.

The Jetta looks better and better, especially with the right wheels and trim. Hopefully this car won't be so damn plain from the start.
