VW has released a set of photos and a few details for the upcoming 2012 Golf Cabriolet model ahead of its Geneva premiere.
The new Golf Cabriolet features design changes from the standard Golf model including a new rear end styling, a more sloped front windshield and a lower profile roof line. The next Golf Cabriolet will come with LED rear taillights like on the Golf GTI model and safety features such as the automatically deploying roll-over bar, side head/thorax airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. The newly developed soft-top roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 km/h (18.7 mph).
VW will offer an array of engine options on the Golf Cabrio ranging in output from 105 bhp (77 kW / 105 PS) to 207 bhp (155 kW / 210 PS). The DSG double-clutch gearbox will be offered on most power plant variants while the 1.6 liter TDI (105 bhp) with BlueMotion technology offers one of the best fuel-economy figures around - 4.4 liters/100 km (64 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 117 g/km.
Prices in Germany for the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet will start at €23,625.

Make no mistake, Human himself just adores the Golf + (GTi) that's a fact! ICONIC!

But this cabrio....FAIL!!!!:t-banghea :thumbdwn:

This one would have made an excellent April Fool's joke.

These hatchback-based cabriolets don't really do it for me either. I must say however that the old Golf I cabriolet has become a much sought-after young classic here in Germany, good examples commanding pretty lofty prices. But its' Golf III-based successor is now really just junk.

I hope that Audis' successor to the current A3 cabriolet is not hatchback-based but an open 2 door version of the upcoming notchback A3 sedan.

Fits is target market perfectly but I'm thinking the same thing as Martin, its an EOS with a cloth top. I guess they have something bigger planned for the next Eos.

Yeah, either that or they're trying to leverage the Golf name. Then again, with VAG having endless model/variant options, they might as well offer two vehicles that are near-on the same. In the end, it'll still count as a sale for VW.

I'm also guessing the Eos might go a tad upscale, especially with that folding hard-top it has...maybe to become something like a Passat convertible to take on the likes of the 3er convertible, but at a much more VW-like price. Just a guess.

Volkswagen kicks off Open Air Season 2011: World debut of new Golf Cabriolet in Geneva

Wolfsburg, 23 February 2011 - In its presentation of the new Golf Cabriolet at the 81st Geneva International Motor Show, Volkswagen is writing a new chapter of a global success story. The four-seater has an innovative soft top with an electro-hydraulic drive that opens the Golf's top in just 9.5 seconds.

The new Volkswagen's styling follows that of its hard-top three-door counterpart, but it shows a high level of independence with a new rear section, lower profile roof line and more swept-back angle of its front windscreen frame. The convertible's image is especially dynamic when ordered with optional bi-xenon headlights. Always a standard feature: the LED rear lights like those of the GTI. Other standard safety features offering peace of mind are the automatically deploying roll-over bar, front airbags, side head/thorax airbags, knee airbag for the driver and ESP.

The new Golf is one of the quietest convertibles today. Its soothing quietness is attributable to the new soft top that was optimised in specific ways. It also has a standard hydraulic drive that opens the Golf's top extremely quickly. The top can also be opened or closed during driving at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

Ideal for cruising with a convertible are the six turbocharged direct-injection engines whose power outputs range from 77 kW / 105 PS to 155 kW / 210 PS. Four of the petrol engines (TSI) and one diesel (TDI) are available with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox; while three of the engines are available with energy-saving BlueMotion Technology. Just how efficiently the new Golf Cabriolet handles fuel is illustrated by the 1.6 TDI with 105 PS and BlueMotion Technology: It only consumes 4.4 l/100 km (equivalent to 117 g/km CO2).

In Germany, advance sales begin tomorrow with prices starting at 23.625,- Euros. Essentially, all of the features offered in the classic, hard top Golf are also available in the new Golf Cabriolet. The only feature that will definitely not be offered is a sunroof ...

Cute car, but yea it does look more like a chick car. Either way it's pretty much flawless. I don't see any design errors. Just perfect.

You do make a point that I'd been mulling over HoH, this little Girlie-Golf is darn good looking compared to the awkward, clunky looking EOS. In fact, let me say this much once again... I detest hatchback-based, cab-forward, four-seater Coupe-Cabrios to the point that I see more point to this Golf than the nausEOS.

Naah, boring and def not for men either. I just hate how VW has the same generic look on every single car, except the Scirocco that is just perfect. Works for many but not me. VW is just like Audi, using the same design on all there vehicles.

Yes, the line up might have the same look. Yes, only a woman may feel secure about driving it....

But isn't it just adorable...Just look at that face!

Eos on discount? I wont be surprised if the next Beetle comes up with the same head-lamps & that common Vw front-end!

Geez.. that photo comparison reminds me of the old-vs-new photo comparison of the Audi A6.

But I guess this car is meant to carry a more hip, youthful image, whereas the Eos is supposed to be perceived as being a tad more sophisticated, sliiiightly more up-market, and somewhat of a fashion accessory.

VW.... really?!

VW is just like Audi, using the same design on all there vehicles.

I could charge that offense to plenty of automakers these day,and that includes BMW. Just today I had hard time telling a 5 series apart from it's big brother as I watched them blow right by me during lunch.

This new VW looks pretty cool. It's a total chick car, and so I'm not awestruck by it, but the addition of a DSG my make it an alluring option for some potential buyers.
