Your favorite hot hatch?

Watch out the next generation WRX and next generation Focus RS (most power and performance for least money).

You do know that the R8 is a mid-engined sports super car, and the A3 is a front engine hot hatch...right?

What does that have to do? M3 also handles well, though it is not mid-engined. S3/RS3 has F4-T layout, whereas S5/RS5 has F4-L layout. The Quattro is like an RS4/RS5 but lower (lower COG), lighter (improved power/weight ratio) and torquier. The Quattro could be worlds appart, and the concept alone proves that.

Well, I'm not going to talk any further about something that doesn't exist. But this thread was about "favorite hot-hatch", not about fastest or best handling hatch. So these are just personal criterias and may not be of importance for everybody. Just_M answered the question best of all, he followed his feelings, not his arguments.

Concerning the pol, it is not really accurate. Well many not really necessary as most here are biased, but the "full" list would be this one (in alphabetic order):

  • Abarth Bravo (TBD)
  • Alfa Romeo Giuliette QV
  • Audi S3 / RS3 (TBA)
  • BMW M135i
  • Citroen DS4 Racing (TBD)
  • Ford Focus ST / RS (TBA)
  • Honda Civic Type-R (TBA)
  • Hyundai Veloster Turbo
  • Kia pro_cee'd R (TBD)
  • Lexus CT200h F Sport (JDM)
  • Mazda 3 MPS (TBA)
  • Mercedes A 250 Sport / A 45 AMG (TBA)
  • Opel Astra OPC
  • Peugeot 308 GTI
  • Renault Mégane RS
  • Seat Leon Cupra (TBA)
  • Subaru WRX (TBA)
  • VW Golf GTI (TBA / Golf R (TBA)
  • VW Scirocco R

For looks it would be the Scirocco R. Just very different compared to the other, followed by S3.
As a good overall product it would be Golf GTI/R and S3/RS3.
As best overall performance car it would be the M135i.
As best track car/ focused car it would be Mégane RS.
As best bang for you buck it would be Ford ST/RS.
As tuner car and most potential car, it would be the WRX.

So, you still think that engine displacement has nothing to do with the handling performance? Dude... seriously. You can't except any Audi to handle like the R8. R8 is in it's own league. Sure the RS4 B7 handled well, but not as near as good as the R8. When you have the engine in the front, that much in front as Audi has, you cant expect a car to handle like a mid-engine car. An M3 handles good cause if the RWD and a better engine placement in the front. But still, again the R8 is another league. Compare it with 458 italia or Gallardo, but not with an A3/S3. Seriously man..

Discussion continues in THIS thread.

Levi, how on earth you have the ability to completely derail a seemingly straightforward discussion baffles me completely. This was a discussion about hot hatches - a fairly obvious and elementary car topic - but you always pull in with your imaginary models and sidetrack the thread. Hot hatches; get real and stick to the topic for the sake of the forum and its members.

1. M135i - Now that's a proper hatch, it's as hot as a chilli under the bonnet with a SUPERB chassis (+drivetrain) it's still a BMW afterall:cool:

2. S3 - VAG's new MQB platform, it's light, great cabin and drivetrain and for the time being outshines it's lesser VW brethren.

3. OPC - I just love it!

And here comes the question... any chance we are brothers ?
Totally agreed once again (y)

BMW M 135i with 6 speed manual. That sonorous sound of that car alone makes it the car of choice for me.
