Volvo hatches its latest model

Volvo seems to have taken to scooping its own cars. This teaser shot of the forthcoming C30 appears on the company’s global website, where a spoof front-page newspaper story tells of a ‘three-door sporty design’ due at the end of 2006.

Expect a concept version of the new C30 three-door hatchback to appear at the Detroit show next month, borrowing heavily from the SCC and 3CC concept cars with what Volvo claims will be ‘an unparalleled level of occupant safety for this class of car’.

A production version of the C30 arrives late in 2006.

Hmm, excuse me, but sometimes i have a feeling that Volvo pays attention only on safety while building cars. :t-hands:

:t-cheers:

I'm looking forward to this car- the design is cutting edge - or so we're led to believe by all the spy pics floating around the internet.
Volvo is being pretty cute with this car....a special webpage, carefully worded
press release. Supposedly it debuts at Detroit NAIAS in January.

It'll be interesting how the real thing stacks up against the Audi A3 in price, design, and performance...especially since Audi has just introduced the 3.2 DSG Quattro A3 in the U.S.. (I priced the 3.2 on Audi's USA website and it came to nearly $40,000 incl Sat/Nav, 18" wheels, leather...whooo! What is Audi thinking?) And, if BMW revises it's original plans and decides to import the 1 series...it'll be a crowded field of crossover hatch's....which means a great selection for the consumer. :eusa_danc

I guess Volvo might be extolling the safety aspect of its cars because that's what they're known for. Hey, all in fun, but do I hear anyone complaining that BMW is always harping on about the driving involvement they try to put into their cars? :D

It's probably best to make sure that your Unique Selling Point is covered and owned, even if you do try and expand public awareness of other aspects of your cars.

In that case, I would say that Volvos are looking much better these days, and in part due to outside involvement, drive better than they used to as well.

Now if they can price this thing right.. it might just be a contender. Certainly the S40/V50 don't look bad at all, IMO.

i think it was something like that on the last Volvo owners magazine. I can't understand this kind of advertisement...

Don't expect anything too exciting. A test mule has been driven around in the UK and the has the same front as the current S40. BMW and Audi should feel no fear.
