I don't like any of these.. if it was the previous X5 i would take it over the ML it was easier on the eyes..this one is awkward from the rear.. so ML for me..
Which in itself is also weird looking.. but not as much as this new X5

Ahh, what an easy one... The X5 isn´t my cup of tea, and wouldn´t be my first nor even my second choice in the segment, but the ML is just a VAN. The rear bumper is nothing but a joke, and side profile lines are fugly. You need to see a ML63 AMG to stop and look at it.

PS: This would be better a internal combustion thread.

Thread moved to Internal Combustion.

Aesthetically: X5
Capability: ML
.
.
.
Sensibility: VW Touareg (that's on my list for the end of 2014)

I'm sad for the new Touareg, it is not selling as it should. I like it very much, specially the R-Line versions.

As A owner of A ML350 diesel I think its a superb car...I have the normal suspension no airmatic and I love the ride its so comfy yet handles well I live in a mountain's area and it handles well the previous ML which we have at home is so ancient compared to this generation a huge step ahead..

I choose a ML I am biased as I own one the X5 is nice but I feel BMW could have done better.

As for ML facelift changes id say make a bigger screen...and rear light design.

The ride is superb and the car is so quiet and I love the steering.

Wheels which seem short are a X5 problem, most badly it is looking out looking at the car from the side. In Mercedes one can't see this problem the Ml what isn't changing the fact that the car needs the modernization which soon will appear. A ml is certainly a very safe car of what not has already to prove.

Out of these two my choice was easy but why limit it to only these two as there are other new releases which look better.

None of them are any hotties. Only good looking thing is the X5 from behind and the Benz, not much to say about it. My personal choice is Evoque.

The X5 just doens't look like much minus the M sport pack, but the ML is no stunner either. The ML is quite homely from the side, but good looking from the front, whereas the BMW is very blunt nosed from the front. Mixed bag all the way around. Interior wise the BMW is much better than MB IMO. Overall unless it is the M sport I'd go for the ML.

I like both brands of course, but for as much as I like Mercedes-Benz, without a doubt in my mind, it's the BMW X5 for me.
All I instantly see in these new MLs on the road are minivans!
I also have to admit I liked the previous ML better than this thing, at least then they looked like modern mid size SUVs.

It's the other way around for me. I'd prefer a vehicle of this size to be more focused towards utility, than anything else. That said, and given the ML's superior off-road capabilities and the fact that I quite like its design, it's my choice.

I chose X5 because the ML looks like Sprinter inside. And BMW have overall better quality.

I may agree on utility, but the poll is about 'Visual', and visually speaking the new ML spells Minivan a mile away to me. As far as utilitarian-wise, off-road prowess, probably none of these two would be on my list, what would I choose if I had to? None other than the Gelandewagen of course, but this is off topic now (sorry ;)).

I like SUVs to have a manly rugged look, usually this is accomplished with straight lines, more boxy designs, while more delicate round curves go along the soft, feminine type of look, which is just fine, except when you want to design a good looking SUV. Take the Range Rover, perhaps the most beautiful design that speaks, manly, rugged, understated elegance; whereas the new F15 (unlike the E70), is also tending to add more roundness, softer look.. the ML just went overboard with this design imho; to me the mininivan/soccermom look just does not do it. I don't doubt it is a wonderful machine, but designs are very important to me.. I know I'm not alone on this here :)

I currently drive an W166 ML63PP and have an F15 40d on order for my wife. I think the BMW exterior looks better (more modern) in person. The interior is no contest.

I really like what MB's done with the GL facelift, and the GLK is alright with the sports package...but the ML is just a terrible effort. The front is awkward, the rear is weak, the overall silhouette and size makes the car almost a misfit. I honestly like the look of a Lexus RX more.

For me, if I'm getting something this big, I want it to look its size, yet still look sharp and athletic. The X5 is all about that! :)
